£50,000 Negotiable + Hybrid Working + Benefits
As a result of increased demand, an experienced Senior Estimator with knowledge of the construction and steelwork industry is required to lead on the estimation of key projects whilst converting inbound enquiries into sales for a well-renowned structural steelwork manufacturer with an impressive reputation for quality and reliability.
Our client designs, details and fabricates structural steelwork, contributing to many iconic buildings throughout the UK. They are an employee-owned business that has built and retained strong commercial relationships with many principal contractors.
The successful candidate will join a skilled workforce in this highly critical, senior role managing the process of accurately estimating project costs to ensure they are competitive, but also remain within agreed margins. Reporting into the Commercial Director, the Head of Sales & Estimating Manager will also support the wider Estimating team as they continue to develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Deal with incoming enquiries.
- Liaise & negotiate with sub-trades to receive competitive prices.
- Liaise with clients' engineers, architects, other designers and internal divisions/departments.
- Produce accurate reports on status of enquiries and pipeline.
- Produce reports and content for pre-tender interviews and post tender presentations
- Develop client and consultant relationships.
Skills & Experience
- BSc/HNC in Building Studies or similar
- Building construction knowledge.
- Good level of structural and civil engineering knowledge.
- Accurate interpretation of drawings and technical specifications.
- Can demonstrate pricing of structural steel projects.
- Be able to price a job on demand (using experience).
- Plan, control and report on enquiries.
- Previous experience of dealing with contractors, engineers, architects and who they are.
- Commercial awareness of economic construction techniques.
- Experience of operating to an ISO 9001 quality system.
- Previous experience in a similar estimating role.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work under own initiative.
- High degree of self-motivation and a commitment to quality.
- Able to communicate confidently with external & internal teams and present plans accurately.
- Experience of value engineering and finding practical solutions to overcome barriers
- Literate in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Use of 3D model software would be an advantage
