Senior Ecologist

Location: Edinburgh

Salary: Negotiable

 

Our client is a modern and dynamic environmental and planning consultancy who work on cross-sector projects (from residential to solar and onshore wind) across the entire project life cycle, from feasibility, scoping and planning submissions through to construction and onto post construction and operational monitoring.

Role

On a day-to-day basis, the requirements of the post would involve:

  • Planning and managing ecological surveys using various survey methods
  • Playing a key role in the delivery of ecological/ornithological services
  • Scoping and Project Management of a range of projects from small to large scale
  • Technical reporting and tendering
  • Negotiating with statutory agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders
  • Building/maintaining relationships with clients
  • Business generation and promotion of services to new clients
  • Resource planning and financial reporting
  • Mentoring of junior members of the Ecology Team
  • Maintaining your own and others' Continuing Professional Development
  • Operating at all times in accordance with the CIEEM Professional Code of Conduct

Requirements

  • You will be an experienced ecologist with strong skills in habitat surveys and/or ECoW
  • You must also be able to establish and nurture relationships with clients. Our client is proud of the innovative approach they bring to their ecology and ornithology services and they want you to be flexible and problem-solving
  • You will be dependable and reliable with a sound ecological background and proven project experience. The role would incorporate working in a supporting role to senior colleagues, as well as advising and mentoring more junior members of the team
  • You will have excellent communication skills and have experience of authoring a wide range of technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments
  • You should be fully conversant with the framework of legislation and guidance within the UK, and experience of the protected species licensing process would be advantageous
  • You should be degree educated and ideally be a full member of CIEEM
  • Accurate record-keeping and good project management skills are a fundamental requirement of the post, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to advise clients on technical issues both strategically and in detail when required
