Our client is currently wanting to expand their team and are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to be based in Cape Town. As Senior Civil Engineer you will manage, coordinate and evaluate all tasks and designs related to geotechnical, hydrological, civil and structural aspects of projects in various stages of development, execution and operation to various business units. You will also support the Global Engineering Manager and manage junior to medium-level Draughtsmen and Engineers.
Reports to: Global Civil Engineering Manager
Travel requirements: Should be available and accustomed to travel extensively internationally to 3rd world and developing countries
Other: Must be able to work in an open plan environment, able to work extended hours and have a valid driver’s license.
Lead the geological, topographical, and hydrological due diligence tasks
Lead review of hydrological, geotechnical, structural and roads risks at development phase
Manage the calculation of civil quantities for the bill of quantities
Identify country specific civil risks and constraints
Conduct due diligence investigations on civil related packages to ensure risks and opportunities are identified to be implemented in the detail design
Support supply chain management on compilation and evaluation of RFP documents (technical specifications and bill of quantities), then lead engagement with suppliers to clarity the responses
Support the execution team with planning and alignment of technical aspects of the project
Manage in-country Civil Engineering Supervisors and Junior Engineers
Job Qualification & Experience:
Professional Engineering Registration (or similar Chartered Engineer registration)
Design management of complex Civil infrastructure (foundations, drainage, roads and buildings)
Ideally 7+ years’ civil engineering experience; and preferably 3+ years’ Solar and Wind energy experience
Foundation design/geotechnical investigations or hydrological modelling/ drainage design experience
Roads/pavement or structural design analysis and bending schedules
Understanding of Resident Engineer management of complex Infrastructure projects
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering preferred, however will consider a B.Tech in the presence of extensive experience in Civil Engineering and Renewable Energy
Sound knowledge of CAD, AutoCAD civil 3D or similar numerical modelling software
An excellent knowledge of MS Office and sound knowledge of GIS software
