Scientist, Microbiology

Vaxxinova US is seeking an individual to join our team as a Scientist- Microbiology in Willmar, Minnesota.

About the role

As a member of the Research group, you will work as part of a team discovering and developing vaccines utilizing the Siderophore Receptor and Porins (SRP®) Technology. The individual will be a well-organized and highly productive bench scientist with strong technical expertise in molecular biology/bacteriology. They will have general knowledge of the fields of microbiology, immunology and/or molecular biology.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate the efficacy of SRP vaccine in multiple animal species
  • Interpret data in the context of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Clone bacterial genes into protein expression platform technology
  • Optimize recombinant protein expression
  • Troubleshoot any issues that may arise, from bacterial isolation to SRP manufacturing, with recommendations for improvement
  • Provide technical support on SRP technology to both internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications and Capabilities:

  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques with experience in cloning, sequencing, molecular biology and Bacteriology, protein expression assays, manipulation, propagation and purification of microbes in BSL2 conditions.
  • Bacterial analytics: bacterial isolation and amplification under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, CFUs, protein purification
  • Specific experience in the design and production of recombinant proteins
  • Highly skilled in bacterial culture, propagation, and bacterial titration techniques
  • Experience performing standard laboratory procedures for the study of protein expression such as western blotting, PCR, RT-PCR and quantitative PCR, ELISA, SDS-PAGE and immuno-staining techniques
  • Protein engineering for recombinant bacterial antigens
  • Ability to conceive and design experiments, develop assays, optimize protocols, and interpret experimental results and document recording in electronic notebook platform
  • Strong written, verbal and time-management skills
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow verbal & written instructions in English

Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in a related field plus at least 7 years of relevant work experience
  • M.Sc Degree, or PhD, in bacteriology, immunology, molecular biology or related scientific field with relevant experience in industry () or academia with a minimum of 4 years’ hands on experience
