SUMMARY: The Optical Engineering Manager is primarily responsible for leading a team of optical engineers, overseeing the design, development, and testing of optical systems and components. Reports directly to the Business Unit Director of Lighting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
· Work with Cross Functional Team to provide technical leadership of the Design & Development and optimization of complex optical systems to fulfill customer needs.
· Lead organizational efforts of training and building of an Optical Design Department including creating training modules for potential optics engineers.
· Establish Design Aids for Lighting Engineers to guide in Lumen Calculation Summaries as well as LED and optical system selection.
· Manage all activities of the Optics Lab.
· Work with New Business development and Sales to support pursuit activities and acquire new business.
· Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure timely and successful project execution.
· Work closely with lighting, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering team members.
· Establish and maintain best practices in optical design and development processes.
· Implement quality control measures to ensure the reliability and performance of optical systems.
· Engage in continuous improvement opportunities as required.
· Maintain compliance of IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001.
Follows all safety, housekeeping (5S) and company policies and procedures.
Coordinates and maintains all job responsibilities in a continuous and flexible manner and performs other related duties and job assignments as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent in Lighting Optics, Computer, Mechanical, Electronics or other engineering discipline. 10 or more years’ experience in exterior and/or interior lighting. Must be able to complete full optic designs for various industries including automotive interior or exterior lighting. Must be proficient in Lucid Shape and/or Speos tools as well as the full Microsoft Office Suite. Must be able to train beginning optical engineers to be proficient over time in optics development. Must be capable of managing team members to drive programs to proper optical solutions for various programs. Must have good data analysis and problem solving skills along with excellent organizational and planning skills. Written, verbal communication and presentation skills are a must. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to confidently interact with individuals at all levels of authority.
