In this role you will lead projects on mechanical product development, developing your knowledge on the products and systems as well as your core competencies. You will be performing and reviewing activities throughout the engineering lifecycle, including research, analysis, trade studies and verification. You will be expected to take the lead on complex work packages, investigations, and mechanical issues to develop your project engineering competencies.
Eaton's capabilities include developing mechanical actuation and structural products using a range of different materials. Eaton has its own composite manufacturing facility as well as a centre of excellence in additive manufacturing. You will have the opportunity to learn and contribute to the implementation of these materials within our product portfolio, as well as to solve problems in the design, development, and production of our current products.
The colocation of all the engineering disciplines at Wimborne provides a unique opportunity for you to develop yourself across multi-disciplinary engineering functions. Eaton support development against the UK Engineering Council's UK-SPEC and support employees to achieve professional registration up to Chartership.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Application of mechanical engineering principles to a variety of well-defined problems of various complexities.
- Development of mechanical products and structures through the engineering lifecycle, compiling and presenting the required technical content for the design reviews and other technical reviews.
- Taking the lead on work packages and projects - planning, monitoring, and controlling such activities.
- Running the development of products against requirements and the verification of such requirements.
- Management of technical resource, across various disciplines, to deliver the scope of the project on time to cost
- Understanding the requirements of projects and supporting/leading the activities to design products that achieve them.
- Performing activities to verify the products against their requirements.
- Performing technical studies and analyses in support of the product's development and issues in production or service.
- Providing support to the production of our products, resolving queries using subject matter knowledge or with assistance from other functions.
- Leading investigation and disposition of failures and non-conformances in production, qualification, and in-service, including proposing solution, containment, Root causes and Permanent solutions.
- May be technical POC for Supplier/s of the product, depending on experience.
Required skills:
- Degree in aeronautical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience in aerospace or other safety critical industries.
- Experience using Structural and Mechanical Design principles to solve issues and develop products.
- Knowledge of materials, their performance, and using this knowledge in the development and support of aerospace products.
- Knowledge / Understanding of Aerospace Product Development standards, specifications, guidelines and certification considerations would be an advantage but not necessary.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical design drawings, and knowledge on 'design for producibility' considerations.
- Experience in creating and reviewing verification evidence and proving compliance through analysis and test results.
- Experience in liaising with customers and suppliers would be an advantage.
- Passion to solve engineering problems and critique proposed solutions.
