Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Pharmaceutical Research Facility
Location: Saffron Walden
Hours: Monday to Friday (Days)
Purpose of the Role
To provide mechanical maintenance support across a large pharmaceutical research facility, ensuring all building services, plant, and critical systems are maintained to a high standard. The role will involve planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical plant and building services equipment
*
Respond to reactive maintenance and breakdowns promptly and professionally
*
Maintain and repair pumps, valves, pipework, AHUs, HVAC plant and associated equipment
*
Assist with the installation and commissioning of new mechanical systems and equipment
*
Support water systems maintenance including hot and cold-water services
*
Ensure all work is completed in line with GMP, site standards and health & safety regulations
*
Complete job sheets, service documentation and maintenance records accurately
*
Monitor plant performance and report any defects or potential improvements
*
Work closely with other engineers, contractors and site management
*
Provide support to wider maintenance operations as required
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
*
NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, HVAC or similar
*
Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, research or manufacturing environments
*
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
*
Good understanding of pumps, valves, heating and cooling systems
*
Knowledge of H&S, permits, and site safety procedures
*
Ability to work independently and prioritise workloads
Desirable:
*
Experience working in GxP / GMP environments or regulated cleanroom facilities
*
Knowledge of HVAC controls, BMS, or chilled water systems
*
Experience within high-containment or laboratory environments
*
Additional mechanical or HVAC certifications
