Managing Quantity Surveyor - Freelance/Self-Employed role. You will have direct responsibility to oversee the Quantity Surveyors within the business, particularly the estimating, reporting and commercial delivery of projects.
You will be closely involved in the pre-construction, construction and post construction stages of projects, and will work closely with the Construction Director and Managing Director to drive down the build cost of projects and add value through design, programme and procurement, whilst maintaining high standards of quality and health and safety.
Your role
Lead tender estimating, planning, and bid preparation, including contract reviews.
Manage contracts and agreements with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Oversee project cashflow, budgets, and financial reporting.
Support project delivery through coordination with construction, admin, and accounts teams.
Build and maintain strong client and supplier relationships; identify new business opportunities.
Manage design, procurement, and cost control to optimize project value and efficiency.
Lead and develop the quantity surveying team, setting targets and ensuring performance.
Resolve contract and commercial disputes effectively.
Conduct regular financial and commercial meetings, providing clear reports and forecasts to directors.
Requirements:
Exceptional technical expertise and proven leadership ability.
Strong contractual and commercial knowledge.
Skilled negotiator with excellent communication abilities.
Highly organised with strong planning and time management skills.
Able to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Respected professional with up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and legislation.
Creative approach to value engineering and cost efficiency.
Capable of effective delegation and team development.
