Position Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic-Water Treatment Plant Certification is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment used in the water treatment process. This includes inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining pumps, motors, valves, chemical feed systems, filters, and control systems to ensure continuous and safe plant operation.
Position Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of water treatment plant equipment including pumps, motors, blowers, compressors, and chemical feed systems.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and plant protocols.
Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including motor control panels, sensors, and SCADA systems.
Maintain and calibrate flow meters, pressure sensors, valves, and other instrumentation.
Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and blueprints.
Record maintenance activities in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
Ensure safe work practices and comply with safety regulations and protocols.
Respond to emergency maintenance issues, which may require evening, weekend, or on-call work.
Collaborate with operations staff to minimize downtime and maintain water quality standards.
Participate in regulatory inspections and audits.
Maintain inventory of spare parts and tools.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
High school diploma or GED required.
Vocational training or associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance .
Minimum [2–5] years of experience in industrial or utility maintenance; experience in water or wastewater treatment facility strongly .
Valid Utah Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification–[Grade/Level], or ability to obtain within [specified time].
Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Understanding water treatment plant processes and equipment.
Ability to operate hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA, confined space, lockout/tagout, etc.).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic computer skills (email, maintenance logs, SCADA interface).
Previous general maintenance experience in a hotel setting
Completion of a registered apprenticeship program
Valid journeyman license or certification in the relevant trade
Previous HVAC, mechanical, plumbing maintenance experience required.
Knowledge of commercial kitchen and laundry equipment is required; commercial refrigeration experience is a plus.
Previous experience with response to emergency situations.
Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks in varying environmental conditions.
May be exposed to chemicals, noise, odors, and biohazards.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Exposure to chemicals, noise, and potentially hazardous environments.
Requires standing, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy objects.
Certifications:
Utah Water Treatment Operator Certificate–Grade [I–IV].
Confined Space EntryCertificationFirst Aid/CPR Certification
Electrical or Mechanical Trade License (optional)
Certification in Water or Wastewater Treatment (e.g., T1/T2 or equivalent)
Electrical or mechanical technician certification
Confined Space Entry and Lockout/Tagout training
Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training .
2–5years of experience in maintenance in an industrial or water/wastewater treatment setting.
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Familiarity with water treatment processes and related equipment.
Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.
