Legal Counsel - Oil & Gas - Ghana & UK focus
Job Description
Our Client is a leading Oil & Gas company, with assets and operations in Africa and South America, who are looking to grow their team in London. This is a rare and exciting opportunity, where you will be responsible for advising on (but not limited to) general procurement contracts, EPIC and other construction type contracts, contract negotiations and management, as well as supporting generally on legal matters across the business. You will be a key member of the Legal Team who provides legal advice and assistance to the supply chain, procurement , and operations units. This is a full-time role based in either London or Accra, Ghana with hybrid working arrangements.
Responsibilities/Key Objectives
To provide high quality legal and operational advice on a range of complex procurement and contractual issues arising across the operations in Ghana.
In particular:
- Working closely and regularly communicating with the General Counsel and other team members as appropriate
- Review, draft and negotiate agreements.
- Review and update contract templates to align with changes in law, decisions, and learnings
- Co-ordinate and manage EPIC and other material construction contracts
- Providing legal advice and support and working with the various departments in the business unit and the procurement department to deliver business efficient transactions and initiatives
- Manage external legal counsel as required.
- Focal point for Ghana joint venture and service contractor parties as required
- Responsible for identifying legal risks and proposing appropriate control frameworks to mitigate the risks to ensure business continuity
- Managing external counsel to handle company legal issues in Ghana, as required
Education and Experience
- The successful candidate should be qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction, having knowledge of upstream oil and gas contractual and regulatory matters is essential.
- Enrolment on the Ghana & English Bar is advantageous.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- It is essential to have a minimum of 4 PQE in a commercial legal environment either in private practice firm, in-house or other business environment
