Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer

Job Description

Activities to be carried out as part of the service:

▪ System design and system integration into overall HPC design:

o Produce, Review and update the system documentation for operator instructions, human machine interface, safety and environmental, control logic design, as well as periodic testing in compliance with the engineering rules, methodologies, quality processes, and tools

o Particularly for Instrumentation and Control, performing the analysis for defining the Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Functional Requirements of the system and production of the I&C logic :

▪ Defining the I&C Functional Requirements

▪ Drafting Detailed Functional Diagram

▪ Writing of the Functional Test Procedure

▪ Testing the I&C logic and feeding results back into specification

▪ Definition and description of human machine interface (alarm sheets, operating images, operating procedures)

o Interface closely with the System Engineers responsible for the mechanical design of the systems, to ensure global consistency of the systems and their operations.

o Analysis and verification of input data, requirements, and lessons learnt from other stations

o Engage proactively with all stakeholders around the system in Edvance to ensure the delivery of a product meeting the requirements set by all disciplines (layout, civil, hazard, nuclear safety, environment, configuration management, procurement …)

o Contribute to topics around good practises, innovration, improvement of processes, and quality

o Participate in experience sharing activities within the discipline



▪ Management of configuration related to the system including:

o Managing requests for modifications to system(s) issued by various external parties by producing specifications and following engineering cycle (I&C design changes specifications)

o Analysis and verification of the applicability of these modifications and challenging them as appropriate (support design stability approach)

o Developing technical solutions and presenting them to internal or external stakeholders / the client to help resolve technical issues (technico-economic optimisation approach)

o Utilising the electronic databases supporting configuration management



▪ Support handovers to detailed designers or customers:

o Liaising with other stakeholders through participation at kick off meetings, gate reviews etc relevant to the system.

o Producing and updating process diagrams with all relevant design changes for handovers with detailed designers

Qualifications

Essential:

• I&C, Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification

• 3+ years’ experience in Instrumentation and Control design

• Relevant experience in the nuclear industry

• Knowledge of the EPR I&C design principles and I&C platforms

• Experience of producing design documentation and Test Specifications

• Ability to effectively manage own workload in order to produce high quality documents and respect deadlines

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and orally, in English

• Proactive and confident in communicating with others, particularly those based in remote offices including France and Germany.

• Proactive in developing positive working relations with others within the project

• Continuously looking for opportunities to improve quality of engineering studies and the subsequent documentation produced



Desirable:

• Advanced knowledge of EPR system design principles and Safety Classification

• Knowledge of EDF internal tools used for I&C specification

• Experience of working on an EPR project, operating nuclear power plant or on an industrial site

• Knowledge of UK licensing requirements and its application within the HPC project

• Ability to speak and write technical documents in French

Additional Information

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
