Position Summary
The Fabrication Shop Manager will need to understand engineering drawings to oversee and manage daily manufacturing activities in Processing, Welding, Paint and Assembly to meet project delivery expectations. Train, oversee and manage ironworker staff. Working closely with the Project Manager and procurement team to ensure proper materials and supplies are ordered and on hand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Reading blueprints to understand piece fabrication requirements.
- Cutting, grinding and welding steel members to fabricate or make alterations to specifications, using oxyacetylene welding equipment.
- Guiding structural-steel member, using tab line (rope)
- Train, oversee and manage manufacturing staff.
- When necessary, be able to perform any manufacturing responsibilities in addition to oversight of the other manufacturing staff.
- Oversee and manage daily manufacturing activities in Processing, Welding, Paint and Assembly and to meet customer delivery expectations as detailed in the weekly production schedule.
- Verify production rates are posted and understood by manufacturing personnel.
- Collect and review daily production summary quantities, provide Project Manager and production schedule updates.
- Oversee and manage proper documentation of scrap and rework reporting.
- Support physical inventory verification activities for accurate reporting as required.
- Verify with manufacturing equipment such as welders, air compressors, machining equipment, saws, are properly set up and functioning safely as intended. Follow up on necessary maintenance schedules with maintenance as required.
- Verify that employees understand how to operate the tools and equipment required to perform their assigned task, including any training license or certification required.
- Manage staff to ensure area is running efficiently and in accordance with production expectations.
- Manages employee’s timecard issues, schedules and PTO requests with manufacturing staff.
- Verify work areas are clean and organized at all times.
- Provide performance evaluations for staff as required.
- Maintain a respectful and professional approach to communicating with others.
- Follow and enforce all company policies including safety rules, quality and OSHA standards to ensure a safe workplace
- Assists with personnel issues as needed
- Provides outlook for team on upcoming work and requirements
- Monitor and track budgets
- Attend Project meetings
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
· 2 years of management experience
· 5 years of skilled fabrication welding experience
· Must have High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to work independently.
- Ability to effectively communicate and direct others
· OSHA 30 Certified (REQUIRED)

particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary. Ability to wear Personal Protection Equipment without modifications or obstructions, including but not limited to; ear protections, safety glasses, face shields, face masks, respirator, burn protection gear, gloves, sleeves, aprons. When visiting a job site, you may be exposed to temperature changes, atmospheric conditions, dusty and dirty environments, safety hazards and wet conditions.
