AECOM is actively seeking a Junior Environmental Technician to join our growing Western Canada remediation team in British Columbia. When not engaged in active field tasks, the right candidate can work locally from our Burnaby, BC office; plus AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work. This position is a full time role and is expected to begin in October 2022. Here, you will have freedom to grow in a world of opportunity. Job Description: Work will vary pending the applicants experience and career aspirations. This position is ideally suited to a junior technician seeking a mix of field and office responsibilities. Depending on time of year, field work will likely represent 60 to 80% of your time with office-based tasks representing the remainder of the time. Field work locations can vary from local to remote locations on a range of active to decommissioned commercial and industrial sites. Field tasks will include: Sample collection of various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapour, etc.) as part of environmental site investigations, design work packages, and confirmation of remediation programs. Oversight of contractors. Monitoring and maintenance of remediation systems. General field inspection and field survey. Construction / remediation construction field services oversight. Safety tailgate meetings and hazard assessments. Office tasks will include: Coordination and preparation for field programs Preparation of safety plans and hazards assessments Data tabulation and data evaluation against provincial and federal environmental requirements Support of Engineering calculations and design. Support of deliverable preparation including reports, engineering specifications, and associated drawings. Minimum Requirements Secondary level of education plus 2+ years of experience in environmental consulting, industry, or regulatory environment versed in contaminated site investigation, remediation, civil earthworks, and/or waste management. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Degree in a relevant technical discipline, including but not limited to environmental, civil, chemical, hydrogeological, and geological study areas. Prior field sampling or site investigation experience. BC based and/or federal client work experience. 2+ years of experience including any co-operative education experience. Engineering design experience under the supervision of professional engineer. Persons who perform well in this role possess a combination of the following attributes, skills, and experiences: Solid written and spoken communication skills, including using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports. Demonstrates an understanding and shows technical competence in conducting field tasks. Collects and analyzes data under supervision of a professional engineer. Knowledgeable and experience with provincial and federal regulations. Self-motivated and can work efficiently in an independent role within a group to achieve goals. Excited to use technology and apps, and willing to contribute ideas to making them better. Have excellent attention to details, time management skills and are mindful of deadlines. Have a high degree of personal accountability. Strong interest and appetite to learn about the Environment business and marketplace. Alignment with our core safety values and willing to speak up to prevent an unsafe act. Looking to build analytical and design skills.
