Environmental Health and Safety Engineer

Creating, enacting, and updating job safety programs for employees that encompass government health and safety regulations as well as company standards for safety in the workplace. Training employees on the importance of health and safety on the job. About the role - you will: Provide support for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) topics focusing on Contractor Safety Management, Confined Space, Radiation and Equipment safety, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Industrial Hygiene, Legal Evaluation and Compliance and EHSMS committee management in order to drive a strong EHS culture and achieve the company's EHS commitments. Work with all employees, contractors and visitors to ensure that all safety policies, procedures and regulations are fully adhered to across the site on an ongoing basis Ensure that safety inspections, risk assessments, working procedures are managed, and contractors and employees are aware of their responsibilities in relation to health and safety issues. Conduct comprehensive on-site safety and contractor audits/inspections and verify that practical corrective actions are being completed, input corrective actions in place where needed. Provide leadership to the management team and all personnel in respect of EHS management and compliance Drive EHSMS committee continuous improvement initiatives. Liaise and communicate with Global EHS function to ensure corporate policies and initiatives are implemented and repot relevant metrics Organize the safety activities to enhance associates’ safety awareness Manage, develop and provide EHS training as required Support and maintain effective document control systems for the EHS Department About you: Have strong communication, coordination and organizational skills Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently Good analytical skills and the ability to think critically are must-haves for EHS officers, who analyze data and compile it into usable material and reports Be someone that can easily motivate other workers Be willing to work as part of a team and even lead a team if required to do so Have good leadership skills to be able to carry everyone along and achieve set goals Have in-depth knowledge of safety legislation and procedures/processes Good Verbal and communication skills. Creative thinking Open communicator Team working skill and the ability to work alone Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft office Your experience includes: Safety Officer or Environmental Officer (waste and wastewater controller) Comprehensive workplace safety and compliance programs and direct experience in Contractor Safety, EMSMS committee, Legal evaluation and compliance, Hazard Identification and Risk assessment, Radiation and Equipment safety and Industrial Hygiene. Ability to understand ISO 14001, ISO45001 and ISO50001 components and activities Occupational Health and Safety Certification with industry experience Work on situations that how to get a consensus and motivate people to get on board with good safety programs in the workplace. Able to assess safety-related problems, gather relevant data, analyze it and come up with recommendations based on findings.
