THE OPPORTUNITY

Western Forest Products is looking to hire an Electrical Systems Manager to be based in Vancouver, WA.

What You’ll Do: As the Electrical Systems Manager, you are responsible for strategic planning, specification, procurement, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems including infrastructure, power supply, motors, controls, instrumentation and optimization. This work is completed with a focus on continuous improvement, project management, maintenance program and personnel development to support organizational values and goals.

Who You Are: You’re an experienced electrical leader with a background in manufacturing or lumber industries and 5+ years of PLC and crew supervision experience. You bring deep knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and troubleshooting - paired with hands-on skills in PLCs, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Rockwell software. Safety-focused and solutions-driven, you communicate clearly, lead by example, and thrive in fast-paced, problem-solving environments.

Work Environment: This role is to be performed in person at our operations based in Vancouver, WA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety and Environmental Performance

  • Promotes workplace health and safety by ensuring that electrical systems are installed, maintained and operated in accordance to safety requirements and ensures that training programs support safety requirements;
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes and regulations and advises management on requirements.

Leadership

  • Support site maintenance personnel in specification, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting electrical system components;
  • Assists site management in determining staffing requirements, selection, training, and oversight of electrical staff. Provides backup support for site electrical leadership;
  • Support site maintenance leadership in planning, procurement, and work management activities;
  • Drives continuous improvement activities with focus on machine center safety, performance, efficiency and reliability;
  • Keeps knowledge and skills current by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking and participating in professional organizations;
  • Develop effective, collaborative and positive working relationships with operations and maintenance colleagues, as well as business partners in other areas of the company.

Operational Management

  • Responsible for strategic planning, specification, procurement, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems including infrastructure, power supply, motors, controls, instrumentation and optimization at PNW operations;
  • Meets operational goals by contributing information and recommendations for strategic planning and review, preparing and enacting action plans, completing audits, identifying trends, recognizing problems and determining appropriate system improvements and solutions;
  • Supports financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and taking effective corrective actions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education And Experience

  • BA in electrical engineering or general supervising electrician certification .
  • Five years’ PLC experience in a manufacturing or lumber related industry .
  • Five years’ experience in supervision and leadership of electrical crews .
  • Expert knowledge of standards and codes for electrical equipment as applies to the forest products industry.
  • Ability to apply understanding of basic hydraulics, pneumatics, AC, DC and 3 Phase circuits, motor control theory, electrical code, electrical control devices, high voltage maintenance, electrical test equipment, panel building and wiring.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and motion control system design, troubleshooting, programming and logic commands.
  • Ability to inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Basic understanding of PLC technologies such as Alan Bradley, and Siemens based controllers.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Suite of Software including RS-Logix, RS-Linx beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of network fundamentals, including cabling, connection terminations, and software configuration.
