A leading energy infrastructure company is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for a long-term contract assignment based in Southport, NC. This role supports high-visibility engineering projects and requires strong technical expertise, advanced problem-solving ability, and experience working independently on complex electrical systems.


Job Overview

The Electrical Design Engineer will support the full lifecycle of electrical system design, from concept development through final implementation. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of electrical engineering principles, proven design experience, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues. Experience working with transformers is a critical requirement for this role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and revise electrical designs, drawings, and schematics for utility and industrial applications.
  • Perform engineering analysis to ensure reliable, safe, and cost-effective operation of electrical systems.
  • Manage the full electrical design process, including requirements gathering, detailed design, documentation, and implementation support.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex electrical issues; identify root causes and propose effective solutions.
  • Ensure all design work aligns with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to support project execution and present technical findings.
  • Provide technical leadership and offer mentorship to junior engineering staff when necessary.
  • Maintain strict attention to detail to ensure accuracy and compliance in all engineering documentation.
  • Work with transformers, including design review, integration, performance analysis, and troubleshooting.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, design practices, and system analysis.
  • Hands-on experience completing electrical designs from start to finish.
  • Proven experience working with transformers (design, analysis, or system integration).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex technical challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on advanced engineering tasks.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards, regulatory codes, and safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring junior engineers.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all engineering deliverables.
