South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is seeking candidates for the position of Distribution Engineering Technician. SCI REMC is one of the largest not-for-profit electric distribution and fiber cooperative in Indiana and a leader in innovative technology. The cooperative focuses on providing safe, reliable, cost-effective electricity and life-enhancing solutions to its 35,877 electric members and over 12,000 fiber subscribers. SCI provides services to Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Putnam, Johnson, and Clay counties. In addition to the core businesses of electric and fiber, SCI employs vegetation management personnel to provide exemplary services to support reliability and member satisfaction.
The cooperative is headquartered in Martinsville, Indiana located just 30 minutes south of Indianapolis airport and 20 minutes north of Bloomington Indiana off I-69. SCI REMC serves over 3,646 miles of energized lines. SCI REMC has 150 highly valued, member-focused employees.
The Electric Line Design Engineering Technician plays a critical role in supporting the planning, design, and layout of electric distribution facilities. This position performs field staking, prepares construction drawings, and ensures that all line design work meets engineering standards, safety requirements, and operational needs.

EDUCATION:
High School diploma is required. Post high school in a technical domain, particularly an associates degree or equivalent level in engineering or engineering technology is highly . Certification in staking or line design, or other training in distribution line design or engineering standards is highly .
EXPERIENCE:
Five years experience with electric utility line work or seven years experience within electric utility engineering, operations, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline. Understanding of electrical systems design, operations, and code (RUS, NESC, NEC, etc.) is required. Experience and demonstrated expertise in utility line design and specifying utility operations/construction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three years experience as a SCI Line Design Planner I or demonstrable experience.
- Must have demonstrated experience in some combination of the following:
- System improvement line design including most or all combinations of overhead/underground and single-phase/three-phase.
- 3-phase new service and development design, including subdivisions and commercial & industrial facilities
- Power System troubleshooting and design relating to power quality & system protection.
- Must be able to work independently in the field and make sound design judgements.
- Must be able to interpret technical drawings and field conditions.
- Must be able to effectively work in adverse outdoor conditions, including emergency response situations.
- Ability to recognize, initiate, and prioritize tasks without direction.
- Ability to maintain strong member relationships through professional, clear communication and service.
- Must have excellent organizational and communications skills.
- Must have strong computer literacy, and proficiency in engineering or mapping software, including Microsoft Office, GIS, and AutoCAD-type tools.
- Specific knowledge of electrical theory and technical terminology of the electric power industry.
- Must be able to mentor and support the efforts of Line Design Planners I & II.
- Must have a firm understanding of electric distribution system design principles and a level of understanding of power quality concepts.
- Specific knowledge of all common distribution line equipment utilized by SCI.
- Must have an understanding of the permitting and easement acquisition process, and familiarity with highway department and telecom coordination for line constriction.
- Must understand fiber optic system principles for telecom line design.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, members, contractors, personnel from other organizations, and the general public.
- Must have certification of distribution system training completion or equivalent.
- Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with field crews, management, contractors and members in field in varying conditions.
- Must be able to organize and schedule work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to tolerate stress and to remain calm, efficient, and courteous under pressure.
- Must be regular in work attendance.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
