Job Purpose
Helping protect the nation’s warfighters and general public through connecting their needs to the innovative capabilities of CSES.
The Director of Business Development, Government/Federal is responsible for business growth in the biodefense government/federal market. This is a key role responsible for developing strategy, building effective customer relationships, and supporting technology solutions needed for long-term, profitable revenue growth. In this high impact role, you will lead, oversee, and execute business development, capture strategy, and relationship management with our customers and partners. Critical to this role is the ability to leverage extensive relationships within the Defense & Security government/federal sectors to represent the voice of the customer.
Key Accountabilities
- Establish multilevel relationships with relevant customer base – including Government/Federal (e.g., DoD, DTRA, MoDs around the globe), Security Agencies (e.g., DHS, HHS, CDC), Research Agencies (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, BARDA, AMRIID) and JPEO CBRND, funding authorities and key international regional levels.
- Builds the sales pipeline (both domestic & international); identifies, validates, communicates, and develops new business opportunities.
- Launches programs to create and maximize demand. Creates focused messaging to target Government/Federal/Security markets – social media, applicable Conferences/Trade Shows, white papers, to name a few.
- Shares market insights to guide overall growth strategy and investments; frequently monitors our business capability landscape to identify opportunities for greater long-term business value. Identifies prospective customers & markets, develops go-to-market strategies, conducts competitive analyses and supports proposal development.
- Regularly communicate opportunities, capture strategies, and pursuit status to internal leadership and other stakeholders.
- Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
Requirements:
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, or similar; MBD desired
- Must be eligible to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance commensurate with the level of facility clearance
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Business Development professional in Defense, Security and/or Aerospace organizations or a combination of Business Development and Government Acquisition experience with a proven record of shaping U.S. and International markets and delivering results.
- Detailed understanding of Congressional budgeting, Government contracting, DoD contracting/acquisitions process (e.g., FAR, DFARS, regulatory/statutory requirements (ITAR/Export Control)), Other Transaction Authority (OTA) processes, and Business Development analysis tools (e.g., GovTribe, Bloomberg, USASpending.gov, Government IDIQ portals).
- Deep understanding of technology, product development, and relevant market trends in the Biodefense government/federal markets.
- Interpret, shape and translate needs in order to support traditional and rapid prototyping product development. Ability to shape customer requirements for CSES offerings with customers.
- Relevant market and domain experience in DoD, Federal/Government, Prime OEMs Biological Threat sensing systems, sensor integration, and connected/network command & control.
- Thorough understanding of Defense & Security markets (domestic & international) with direct experience working with Government and Prime customers as well as strategic OEM Partners.
- Proven ability to establish and grow long-term relationships with strategic customers and sell the value at each level of their Organization (C-Suite, Program Management, Engineering and Sourcing).
- Experience with organic business development for new technologies.
Additional Requirements
Significant domestic and international travel (minimum 50%) to customer locations, key budget and acquisition organizations, and trade conferences.
