This role supports a North American power company advancing high-voltage electrical infrastructure and grid reliability to enable a more resilient, secure energy transition.


As a Commissioning Engineer, you will lead on-site high-voltage and partial-discharge testing of GIS systems to ensure safe, compliant, and fully operational installation. You’ll execute commissioning of specialty switching and monitoring devices (including synchronization and sensor-enabled equipment), own schedule progress reporting, troubleshoot technical issues during live test cycles, and train contractors and customers for long-term operational readiness.



Key Technical Responsibilities:

  • Execute GIS system and component commissioning in line with released testing procedures and commissioning programs
  • Conduct high-voltage testing, and where required, complete system PD measurement on fully installed GIS
  • Track progress against commissioning schedules with consistent reporting to internal teams and site stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during live commissioning test phases
  • Maintain as-built documentation and generate accurate job site system records
  • Support the creation of final commissioning documentation packages
  • Train and guide junior or subordinate commissioning personnel through testing standards and field processes


Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of technical commissioning experience in power grid or related high-voltage electrical systems
  • Field familiarity with partial discharge measurement tools and techniques
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or equivalent technical field
  • Working knowledge of GIS system construction and high-voltage electrical infrastructure
  • Formal training qualifying you to commission SF6 gas-insulated equipment
  • Membership or certification from a recognized provider of a high-voltage testing course
  • Comfort working within intercultural and cross-border environments
