Nix Construction, a growing general contractor based in Hilton Head, South Carolina is looking for an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator. This position is responsible for preparing cost estimates and bid packages for commercial construction projects including office buildings, retail, institutional, parks and multi-use. This role is crucial to assisting the company to bid competitively while ensuring profitability and compliance with project plans and specifications.

Core Responsibilities:

• Collaborates closely with Project Management team and other key stakeholders. Works with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to gather and analyze data to create comprehensive bid packages. Prepares accurate cost estimates for construction projects to include:
• Review plans and specifications.
• Perform takeoffs.
• Identify key vendors and subcontractors. Solicit material suppliers and subcontractors for bids.
• Prepare comprehensive bid packages and proposals that align with client expectations and industry standards ensuring all required documents are complete and accurate for submission.
• Update and maintain databases for historical cost data, materials and labor rates to inform future estimates.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks and client presentations.
• Effectively and efficiently transitions awarded projects to Project Management team.
• Maintains effective relationships with stakeholders, owners, design team, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and employees.

Competencies and Requirements:

• Proficiency in reading blueprints and specifications.
• Strong understanding of construction means and methods, building codes and current industry practices.
• Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, work well under pressure when faced with unexpected occurrences and delays.
• Strong analytical, math, time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to analyze project construction staging and workflows and their constructability and/or identify means and methods to improve the schedule.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, Bluebeam and project management & estimating software.
• Maintain cost estimating tools including databases, spreadsheets, and/or software-based applications to keep updated information on past performance and industry standards.
• Experience of multiple types of commercial and residential construction projects is desired to include office buildings, medical office buildings, retail buildings, multi-family, hotels, restaurants, parks, churches, warehouses, clubhouses, and marine construction.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are a requirement.

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field experience – Required
• 10+ Years of commercial construction estimating experience
