This summer is designed to give students the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working with three of our specialized teams: Water Resources, Civil Design, and Bridge Engineering.
Over the course of the program, you will rotate between teams, contributing to real projects under the guidance of experienced professionals. You will gain exposure to a broad range of engineering disciplines, from hydrologic analysis and multimodal transportation design to structural engineering for bridges and other transportation structures.
Key Responsibilities
You will have the opportunity to:
- Assist in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for transportation projects, including small and large basin studies.
- Support stormwater quality analysis and help determine best management practices for construction and post-construction phases.
- Participate in civil engineering design for multimodal projects, including bike, pedestrian, and transit planning.
- Conduct fieldwork, data collection, and analysis across multiple project types.
- Assist in the analysis and design of transportation structures, such as bridges, retaining walls, and box culverts.
- Prepare reports, specifications, construction documents, and presentations.
- Utilize industry software and tools, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, and structural analysis programs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and practical engineering solutions.
Requirements
- Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or Graduate student in Civil Engineering or a related field (Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science with a water resources focus, or Structural Engineering).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation .
- Coursework or project experience in transportation, structural, or water resources engineering is beneficial.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Availability for a 3-month (approximately June – August).
Skills
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
- Fieldwork experience.
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and CDOT Bridge Design Policies.
- Basic knowledge of structural analysis techniques and engineering principles.
Benefits
The pay for this position starts at $23.00 per hour.
