BESS Field Commissioning Manager

Overview of the Role:
Join one of the world's largest Battery Energy Storage System developers as their Commissioning Manager. This critical role oversees subcontractors and OEMs in the delivery, installation, quality control, testing, and startup of cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage Systems and Solar Coupled Power systems. As the Owner's representative, you'll ensure world-class energy storage solutions meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee EPC contractors and OEMs throughout BESS installation and commissioning processes
- Manage construction turnover, pre-energization, commissioning, and performance testing
- Conduct detailed quality control inspections and maintain comprehensive punch-lists
- Create and manage energization plans for complex energy storage systems
- Interface with engineering teams, business management, and third-party stakeholders
- Perform substation testing, energization, and metering testing oversight
- Manage ISO/GIA/PPA commissioning processes and compliance requirements
- Lead performance testing coordination and final project close-out documentation
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Engineering or professional electrical career in power systems commissioning
- Minimum experience with 100MW-hr or 5+ energy storage systems
- Thorough understanding of Li-Ion batteries and ESS integration
- Expertise in DC systems (0-2,000Vdc) and AC systems (480V-34.5kV)
- Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, and industrial electronic equipment
- Strong knowledge of protection and controls implementation
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Ability to travel up to 75% and work at remote project locations
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
