Assistant Program Manager - Japanese Translator

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified individual to join our team at the UK office of the International Council on Environmental Economics and Development (ICEED), a UN affiliated think tank. The office is located in St. James Square in London England, UK.

 

This position will offer the opportunity to work with high level policy and research experts, with renowned think tanks, intergovernmental organizations, governments, and academic leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Translation and editing of research material from English into Japanese.
  • Interpretation from English to Japanese and Japanese to English.
  • Research and analysis in the fields of digital and AI policy, economic environmental national security, climate impact.
  • Arrange regular meetings with partners and perform as meeting moderator.
  • Attends business conferences and work groups aligned with the organization’s objectives per instruction of senior management.
  • On occasion travel domestically and internationally, requiring overnight stay(s), as needed.
  • Conducts “one-on-one’s” as part of the data gathering process.
  • Reports to and assists with administrative tasks of the Project Manager.
  • Must be able to be in the office daily.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree preferably in Political Science or International studies.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in professional level translation and interpreting
  • Fluent Japanese speaker, eligible to work in the UK for an extended period of time.
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Demonstrable competency in research and analysis.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

 

  • Excellent editing skills to make summaries of lengthy reports or contents of meetings, conferences, or other events.
  • Ability to collect up to date information on leading edge technologies and present to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to remain current with internal policies, government politics, and industry news.
  • Ability to conduct meticulous research in the fields of AI, climate change, economics, environmental, and social conditions of developed and developing countries and present detail-orientated project reviews.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills to complete tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships and collaborate with internal and external resources.
  • Positive attitude toward problem solving within a constrained environment.
  • Strong curiosity about learning new business & corporate cultures.
