Alternative Fuel Product Engineer-CAN-ON-Cambridge Apply Now GFI, a Westport Fuel Systems company, designs and manufactures a comprehensive product mix of alternative fuel components for applications in the light and heavy duty vehicle and industrial segments globally. This product mix includes Hydrogen (H2) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) components such as pressure regulators, tank valves, PRD's, PRV’s, shutoff valves and integrated systems for a wide range of applications, including Fuel Cell vehicles. Position PurposeThis is an exciting Engineering opportunity to make a difference in the growing alternative fuels industry. We're looking for energetic and motivated team members to further improve our product offerings for H2 and CNG components. This role is focused on product design, including analysis, testing, project management and support of internal and external stakeholders to close issues and launch new projects. Role responsibilities Design tasks for assigned H2 & CNG projects, from concept generation, through development, to production optimization, product launch and field supportDesign tasks for electronic shut-off valves and proportional valves for use in H2 and CNG applicationsImplements design for manufacturing techniques (molding, casting, etc.), in preparation for volume manufacturingImprove and cost reduce existing productsParticipate & lead when necessary the planning and execution of product validation (DVP&R)Benchmark existing internal and competitor’s components and systemsAnalyze internal test data to iterate/improve designs.Process field issue data to determine root cause and improve designProvide technical support to purchasing, production, customer service and quality assurance Conduct development testing in a lab environment, analyze data and document results.Champion 8Ds, working closely with the cross functional team Create and update DFMEA’sUnderstand and apply APQP principlesPrepare and present technical presentations for internal and external customers Health & Safety responsibilities Promote Westport’s H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilitiesReport unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidentsCo-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative Position Requirements Effective communication skills & ability to work within a teamOrganized and ability to drive issue resolutionDemonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environmentProject management skillsExperience with SolidWorks is considered an assetDemonstrated experience creating detailed 2D drawings using GD&TExperience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems such as SolidWorks EPDM is considered an assetExperience with design of high-pressure components/valves/actuators is considered an assetExperience with design of electronic shut off valves and proportional valves is considered an assetUnderstanding of industry & regulatory requirements is considered an assetTier 1 or Tier 2 Automotive experience is an assetPlaces importance on attention to detail and maintaining high quality standardsCapable of working in a pro-active manner with minimal supervisionAbility to respond to frequent demands in order to meet deadlines Physical Requirements / Working Conditions: This position performs some sedentary office work and requires the ability to move throughout the building to interact with others. This position uses a computer terminal to access, input and retrieve data. This position may occasionally require travel (< 10% of time) both by vehicle and by air. This position will occasionally use common tools to assemble, troubleshoot and test components and may be required to lift up to 40lbs Salary RangeThis role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $85,000 - $100,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors including skills and experience.
