Senior Civil, Structural & Architectural Engineer
Here at Cavendish Nuclear we're looking for a Senior Civil Structural & Architectural Engineers to join us in our Bristol office. You'll be part of a team undertaking traditional and bespoke designs of reinforced concrete, steel and masonry structures for decommissioning and new build projects - principally in relation to the support of mechanical handling equipment and associated electrical systems. In this role you'll provide technical leadership and proven expertise, which may include acting as Technical Lead on some projects.
As one of our Senior Engineers you'll develop designs for specified structures in accordance with relevant codes and standards, which will include normal and extreme loading scenarios. Using your experience of reinforced concrete, masonry and steelwork you'll prepare engineering design documentation including:
* Design requirements specifications
* Design reports
* Design method statements
* Scoping calculations
You'll be key to ensuring our projects are delivered to time and cost. So as a natural problem solver you'll analyse and find solutions to any issues that arise in manufacture, construction, installation, commissioning and decommissioning. You'll also support design reviews including hazard and operability studies, optioneering studies, construction and installation and design changes.
We offer a supportive work environment so as well checking the correctness of your designs you'll carry out reviews of other engineers work and provide mentoring for junior members of the team.
What do I need to do the role?
Degree qualified in Civil /Structural Engineering you'll be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer of ICE of IStructE (or working towards full memberships). You'll naturally need significant experience of design in reinforced concrete and steelwork, ideally including design for seismic loading. You'll be working with 2D CAD (AutoCAD) and 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor) so you'll need an understanding of those tools to prepare concept designs, detail design scheme drawings and detail manufacturing drawings. We also expect you to understand the use of finite element analysis in the structural design process and preferably have experience of using this type of software.
Designing to legal, health and safety, and environmental standards is hugely important. So you'll need to be familiar with:
* National design codes and standards - knowledge of USA codes and standards for seismic design would be hugely beneficial
* ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSA18001
* Legal and regulatory standards, including construction (Design and Management) regulations
* Ideally an understanding of Nuclear Site Licence Conditions and their application in design
As you'll be guiding and directing a small engineering team you'll need the ability to estimate costs and the man-hours required to prepare engineering deliverables. You'll need good communication and relationship building skills as you'll work cross functionally within Cavendish Nuclear to ensure projects are delivered to customer satisfaction.
