To ensure efficient loading of ships in compliance with various contracts and/or procedures while maintaining an effective interface with both internal and external stakeholders.

Delivery of Supply and Shipping Operations Services that support Qatar Shell in achieving efficient lifting of products whilst meeting customer requirements.

The SSO is accountable for the following duties:
  • Process Ship nominations and Ship vetting
  • Issue Loading Instruction, Surveyor appointments, Pilot bookings, Shipping agent on every shipment.
  • Ensure timely processing of shipping related invoices (I.e. handle the interface with Finance including accruals management, invoicing and settlements in SAP system)
  • Maintain the database of shipments for record, claims management, dead freight, demurrage and shipment summary
  • Generate (using SAP P49) accurate and on timely basis all soft and hard copy cargo documentation and coordinate with the Document Expeditors to get all stamps and signatures from the relevant parties (Ship Agents, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Ministry of Business Trade)
  • The operator is required to understand the potential commercial impact of cargo / demurrage claims and ensure that the necessary commercial actions are taken to protect Shell's business position (hence support claims management on quality, dead freight & demurrage issues)
  • Ensure proper filing of all shipping documentation and record through hard copies and archiving in SharePoint.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders, primarily Qatar Petroleum, QPSPP, Ship Agents, Brokers, 3rd party customer i.e NP customers
  • Ensure efficient loading of ships in compliance with various contracts or procedures while maintaining an effective interface with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide support to Oil Movement Coordinator/ Tank farm Ops, E&S, LAB and Product Managers.
  • Handling of every Qatar Shell product sampling requests.
  • Main support to the Supply and Shipping Operations Team Lead, Schedulers and Oil Movement team to confirm loading/discharge plan for every Qatar Shell Product lifting.


Total production under the care of Shipping Operations is close to 150,000 bbl/d of product ranging from Naphtha, Kerosene, Jet A1, Gas oil, Drilling Fluid, Normal Paraffin and 3 Base oil grades. Ad hoc advice on Upstream Products may be requested.
The products are shipped to Shell Affiliates and external customers via the common terminal in RLC with around 150-200 shipments per year under regulated as well as non-regulated product scenarios.

Qatar Shell manufacturing asset is a Greenfield development and is the single largest investment of Shell. It comprises two off-shore platforms, gas treating facilities and the Gas To Liquids (GTL) facilities. It has transitioned from project to running asset since mid-2011 creating significant value through producing high quality products from the GTL process.

Special challenges:
  • The supply and shipping operations environment is often dynamic, fast-moving and frequently changing.
  • Operators often have to be able to respond quickly and accurately to challenging and sometimes conflicting deadlines to comply with business needs and policy guidelines.
  • The ability to prioritize from several potentially conflicting tasks whilst keeping a cool head is essential to success in dealings with internal and external customers.
  • Daily working hours may be variable and unpredictable at times. After hours and weekends work may be required on regular basis.
  • The operation & shipping world has theoretically no weekends or holidays and it is always linked to the shipping schedule and the loading plans which are very variable depending to the production, berths availability and vessels arrivals
  • You will be obliged to participate in the duty cover scheme.

Technical/ business university degree or diploma.
Experience and other skills:
  • The candidate should have a good knowledge of Manufacturing/Logistics/Shipping operations
  • Experience in SAP is required, P49 module is a great advantage.
  • Problem-solving ability.
  • Numeracy, attention to detail, proven team working, and good communication skills are important.
  • Evidence of working successfully in different cultural environments is highly desirable and evidence of being able to work in a team, ideally from diverse backgrounds, is required.
  • A good level of fluency in the English is required, Arabic is advantageous.
  • Qatari national is preferred
