We are looking to continue the expansion of our Remediation & Ground Engineering group through the recruitment of a high-calibre Technical Director in the UK. This leadership role will encompass technical leadership, delivery of technical expert services, directing and managing projects, and supporting the Business Unit Director on operational matters as required. This position will initially be for a fixed term of 12 months.

Comprising approximately 70 staff, our Remediation and Ground Engineering team in the UK delivers projects across a broad spectrum of sectors and clients, including work for government and defence, transport and aviation, property, industrial and energy clients.

The team is part of the Remediation and Ground Engineering Business Unit, which covers services including contaminated land investigation and assessment, contaminant hydrogeology, engineering geology and geotechnical design. Through our projects we provide high quality technical services to advise a wide range of clients, both in the UK and internationally. As part of a global Environment and Infrastructure Solutions business, we are ambitious in our plans for growth, and this successful recruit for this role will play an important part in delivering this growth, with a focus on our contaminant hydrogeology and remediation services.

Key Duties/ Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will perform the function of a project technical lead which has the following primary responsibilities:
  • Technical direction of projects
  • Technical assurance (within specified field)
  • Definition of technical standards, improvements and mentoring
  • Raise external profile of technical capability
In addition to inputting into technical leadership, your main responsibilities will include:
  • Delivering project work, as either a contributor, project manager or project director (target 75-80% of your time)
  • Providing a focal point, mentoring and leadership for hydrogeologists in our team and fostering links with hydrogeologists in our Water Management business unit
  • Inputting into or leading business development and major proposals to help develop our portfolio of hydrogeology projects
  • Assisting with our Europe wide initiative to develop our PFAS capability and workload
  • Assisting with the development of our Engineering Geology and Geotechnics design practice liaising with our Geotechnics Technical Lead
In addition to the above, the following minor responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the RGE leadership team and actively participating in the Senior Team calls
  • Engagement with the Strategy and Business Development team to build collaboration across the global Environment & Infrastructure Solutions business and develop opportunities for international work

Skills / Qualifications
  • You will have a relevant technical degree e.g. geology, engineering, geography, earth/environmental science
  • A relevant professional membership in Geology/ Hydrogeology is also required
  • You will have experience of staff/team management, ideally with demonstrable experience of growing a team
  • You will have demonstrable people and team leadership skills, with a commitment to staff development
  • You will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of successful delivery of hydrogeology projects, with a firm commitment to customer service excellence
  • You will have a background in groundwater investigation, assessment or remediation, in consultancy or a related field
  • You will be confident and persuasive, with excellent communications skills
  • You will have the ambition and ability to lead, develop and grow a teams whether directly under your supervision or on a broader basis
