We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Functional Safety and Controls Engineer within our Control and Instrumentation team based in the Winnersh, Reading office. The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

As a Senior Functional Safety and Controls Engineer you will be working on Oil and Gas projects through all phases of the Functional Safety Life Cycle

Responsibilities include:

  • Producing key deliverables such as SIL verification documents and safety Requirement specifications.
  • Produce SIL verification calculations using ExSILentia and other SIL Calculation software.
  • Specify, Test and Commission SIS and Control Systems.
  • Interface with SIS System integrators to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Works under the direction of the C&I Project Lead and/or Functional Safety Lead at the project level
  • Ownership - responsible for ensuring the effective, timely delivery of quality discipline deliverables
  • Liaising with clients and other design team members
  • Develop and maintaining excellent client relationships
  • Adherence to Jacobs Work Processes and appropriate application/use of departmental tools
  • Management of discipline deliverables and other project related files in Jacobs Project Information system
  • Coordinate/manage HVEC (High Value Engineering Center) workshare office activities/tasks to ensure work packages are in compliance with home office requirements (Quality, Schedule, Cost)
  • Maintaining technical quality to schedule
  • Support P&ID development; maintains the P&ID's through each project phase; recognizes/ understands required process control strategies and ensures same are reflected accordingly
  • Thorough understanding of the different types of control systems and/or electrical equipment; associated applications, dimensional data usage, etc
  • Clear understanding of C&I design deliverables/tools; provide engineering support during development
  • Support development of TIC cost estimates and Engineering/Design effort hour estimates (PSE)
  • Ensuring project financial performance
  • Ensure proper development of C&I engineering / design deliverables
  • Ensure that received process data required to specify C&I equipment is complete
  • Ensure proper preparation/checking of engineering calculations, specifications and requisition packages - verifying content, proper assembly, thorough checking, and issue to project
  • Ensure incorporation of C&I content into mechanical equipment vendor packages
  • Interface with system integrators to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Review system integrator and vendor data to assure specifications and project requirements are met

Essential:

  • TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer
  • Good, relevant experience in preparing SIL calculations and SRS
  • Thorough understanding of all phases of the Functional Safety Lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with clients, designers and other design team members
  • Degree qualified
  • Solid business acumen - thorough knowledge of EPC work processes, cost control, scheduling and administrative practices, understanding project phases and associated required scope/deliverables
  • Significant experience in various phases of vendor selection and technical negotiation
  • Experienced in the execution of control systems (e.g. DCS, ESD) from first concepts to acceptance testing (e.g. FAT/SAT/Commissioning)
  • Understanding of the design requirements relating to instrumentation and control systems
  • Knowledge of the variety of installation requirements for equipment in Hazardous areas
  • Flexibility to travel for client meetings, vendor meetings and acceptance testing
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Assistance in providing C&I input into proposals
