Where you will be working

Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Laboratory Crew Leader to play a critical role in leading and mentoring a team of analysts to meet safety, quality and production targets in our laboratory processes.

About you

This role is a great opportunity for someone with previous experience in leading and mentoring teams within the mining or similar production industrial laboratory environment.
  • Providing a safe work environment and promote a ‘Zero Harm by Choice' culture by always role modeling all aspects of safe work in accordance with Rio Tinto Policies and Procedures
  • Ensuring all analytical services are performed on schedule and to the desired standard to support our quality assurance processes and ‘Market to Mine' strategy
  • Managing internal and external customers and stakeholders by developing, promoting and maintaining positive relationships and by a consistent provision of quality customer service.

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Previous experience in leading and mentoring laboratory teams
  • Familiarity with mining or similar industrial laboratory processes
  • A thorough understanding of laboratory information systems and quality standards, e.g. ISO 9001.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability applying continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma principles
