Capital Planning is charged with managing the capital program (~$1.7 Billion) by providing gas electric systems investment planning, budgeting forecasting, infrastructure asset analysis, and capital allocation. The capital planning role is responsible for the optimization of capital spending and infrastructure investment by driving planning, providing program insight, and continuous improvement. This position ensures collaboration between engineering, gas electric operations planning, finance, regulated revenue organizations, and local operations

Provides value-added capital program analytics and support to executive management and internal stakeholders. The incumbent may assume responsibility for capital program analytics, including but not limited to reviewing and interpreting the impact of portfolio schedule and cost impacts on the capital program and our commitments; preparing analytical studies on historical, forecasted, and pro-forma capital program financial data; developing comprehensive capital program insight and business drivers for executive management and internal stakeholders; and providing other needed expertise and reporting to accurately reflect and manage program efficiency matters.

  • Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.   • Compiles, organizes and formats data, including qualitative analysis required for reporting. Identifies and researches reporting issues, provides recommendations, assists with the adoption of new reporting requirements. (Reporting)
  • Recognizes situations where the regulatory framework and rate case outcomes impact our capital investment program; Supports regulatory initiatives by gathering data and preparing regulatory schedules and/or preparing data requests. (Regulatory)
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of program metrics and measures and understands and utilizes program benchmarking data as it relates to NiSource capital performance. (Business Acumen)
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the project lifecycle including key handoffs between planning, engineering, and construction; collaboratively develops solutions between capital execution teams and state regulatory and finance stakeholders. (Business Acumen)

All analyst levels
  • Requires 4 year degree in business discipline
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft office applications; particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Prefer MBA
  • Prefer Utility Industry experience

  • 0-3 years of experience (or equivalent education) in finance, accounting, regulatory, engineering, or construction related field

Senior Analyst
  • 3-6 years of experience in finance, accounting, regulatory, engineering, or construction related field
  • Requires analytics, predictive modeling and/or reporting experience
  • Requires multiple functional work experience in related field

Lead Analyst
  • 7 years or more experience in finance, accounting, regulatory, engineering, or construction related field
  • Requires analytics, predictive modeling and/or reporting experience
  • Requires multiple functional work experience in related field
  • Demonstrated cross functional collaboration
