Test Development Engineer

The Role:

As a member of the Tester Development Team, Tesla is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 3+ years of experience in designing and developing Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for Low Voltage electronic hardware and systems. Automated Functional testers will be used for Manufacturing, Engineering and Reliability Testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop Automated Test Equipment for functional test of PCBA & Low Voltage automotive modules.
  • Create Production test specification for electronic hardware and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
  • Define most efficient plan for testing, focus on test time reduction and low complexity to promptly release testers.
  • Read, interpret, and diagnose schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuits.
  • Create test programs to communicate with test equipment such as power supply, signal generators, DAQ, analyzer, etc. and ECU using CAN, LIN, Ethernet & USB.
  • Generate aesthetically simple GUI screens for complex machinery and provide sufficient feedback for troubleshooting.
  • Confer and collaborate with cross functional teams, hardware and software teams.
  • Support bring up, validation, and development of new hardware and systems.
  • Continually design and implement improvements to released equipment.

    Requirements:
  • BS/MS degree in EE/CS or equivalent with 3 or more years working in R&D or production environment developing testers.
  • Experience with NI LabView, NI Test-Stand, C/C#, Python and basic Linux ( Plus).
  • Possess strong communication skills and a preference for working in teams.
  • Hands-on experience designing and debugging products.
  • Be able to work closely with design, software, firmware, testing and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to travel internationally for 15% of time.
