The Role:

We are looking for an intermediate/senior level technical writer with hardware and software knowledge to write manuals for high-tech energy products (including energy storage, charging, and solar). The writer will create task-oriented documentation targeted to many audience levels (such as installers, support technicians, operators, and owners).

Responsibilities:
  • Independently write precise and informative documentation for system installers and operators based on Tesla style. Documents include product installation manuals, operation and maintenance manuals, technical datasheets, and application notes.
  • Proactively define and manage change control processes.
  • Validate all information for accuracy and engage in established processes for review and approval.
  • Track ongoing product enhancements for various regions worldwide to ensure all required information is being communicated.
  • Manage document translation for worldwide deployment.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, technical writing, or a related degree, and/or 3+ years of technical writing experience
  • Experience documenting high-tech energy products such as battery systems, fuel cells, power conversion systems or solar generation systems
  • Experience preparing high quality documents for external audiences
  • Ability to understand complex engineering specifications and interact with multiple teams (engineering, testing, service, marketing, legal, compliance) to ensure appropriate content for distinct regional audiences
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Proven professional attitude toward work assignments and customer relationships
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Pro-active team player who thinks ahead, plans, and suggests solutions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Positive attitude toward change and inevitable mid-project course corrections
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe publishing tools (such as InDesign or FrameMaker)
  • Experience in working in a structured authoring environment preferred
  • Experience with DITA a plus
