The Role

The Technical Training Specialist will report to the Installation Quality Manager and be primarily responsible for conducting instructor led trainings (ILT) for our Direct and Certified Installers so that our workforce is knowledgeable and adheres to the best practices in the company. This will be accomplished through New Hire Onboarding, task qualifications programs, continuing education courses, as well as hands on training in the field.

Additionally, the Technical Training Specialist will be responsible for creating and maintaining training content and delivery methods in coordination with managers and subject matter experts to ensure best practice state-of-the art training on Tesla Energy products, installation methods, leadership, and customer engagement.

The ideal candidate has significant experience leading an Energy Product installation crew and a demonstrated track record of high quality, efficient and safe installations. This person must be a charismatic motivator and an effective communicator. They must also be patient with new trainees, organized, consistent, and creative. This trainer also needs to be self-motivated and driven to manage their time while having a remote reporting structure.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct Installer Training from start to finish
  • Complete administrative duties to track learner enrollments, attendance, and course completion
  • Overall responsibility for enhancing training content including:
    • Create and maintain content development for all regional Instructor Led Trainings
    • Update information and documentation for our Learner Management System (Bridge) and online library (Confluecne.)
    • Delivery of material, using most appropriate method
    • Manage and revise content based on feedback as necessary to adapt to product and process changes
    • Develop supporting pre-work and ongoing follow up training to emphasize learnings across channels
  • Create content for weekly toolbox talks when quality issues arise
  • Responsible for finding exciting and creative ways to deliver training information and material
  • Make independent decisions on which locations and crews require additional training based on installation quality metrics
  • Stay abreast of process and policy changes that affect Tesla installation procedures and field employees
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements that increase field safety, efficiency, and quality
  • Conduct weekly regional site visits to evaluate installer work product and use findings to improve training content
  • Work closely with installation and operations managers to support training requests
  • Provide onsite training, mentorship, and troubleshooting for crews in the field
  • Work closely with the engineering teams to ensure robust feedback loop between field and design
  • Collaborate with the regional coordinator on schedules and travel logistics for trainees
  • Actively promote a culture of safety in accordance with Tesla and industry standards
  • Work closely with other departments: Safety, Sales, Operations, Channel Partners, Engineering
  • Drive other projects as needed by executives or as business needs change


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a leadership position
  • Minimum 1-year working as an installer with high reviews from manager
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, word processing, and cloud based applications
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular PowerPoint required
  • NABCEP Certification strongly preferred
  • Proven management and supervisory skills
  • Comfortable in a fast paced field environment
  • Comfortable presenting on camera and for live audiences
  • Proficiency in installing on all types of buildings with the ability to craft sound solutions to unforeseen field conditions
  • Understanding of the NEC codes that relate to PV and Energy Product installations
  • Must have a desire to continue learning and staying up to speed on all Tesla processes
  • Must be very organized and be able to meet aggressive timelines
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • All candidates must submit and be able to pass a background check and drug test
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, lift 40 pounds, and must be able to work on your feet for long periods of time
  • Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time to regional offices for training
  • Ability to work in extreme environments, e.g. hot sun, below freezing, crawl spaces, heights, etc.
  • Experience with plumbing, carpentry and HVAC desirable
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, word processing, and cloud based applications
