Tesla is looking for a highly motivated engineer to help drive the state of the art manufacturing processes for one of the most complex and challenging components of the electric car - our next generation of Battery Modules. As you can imagine, Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to take manufacturing to the next level, as we continue the development of one of the largest manufacturing facilities in the world - GigaFactory1 in Sparks, Nevada.

The Tesla Battery Module Manufacturing Engineering Team is not for the faint of heart, after all, changing the world isn't easy. It is however, an opportunity to work along-side some of the industry's top experts on some of the most stimulating challenges of the 21 st Century.

This specific role is responsible for working with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. This newest member of Manufacturing Engineering will be in lockstep with Design Engineering, Product Excellence (Quality), and New Product Integration (NPI) to take new Battery designs and manufacturing process from initial concept, through prototype development, and into full production. As such, we expect this person to take pride in their hands-on work, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Drive Module Level Design for Manufacturability
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to understand and document:
    • module design changes
    • build schedules and requirements
    • test requirements
    • specialty builds
  • Develop and understand line level manufacturing requirements
    • Time Studies
    • Equipment/Line Utilization
    • Line Capacity
    • Man Power
    • Layout
    • Ergonomics
  • Understand, Document, and help drive module level assembly process flow
  • Maintain detailed module level process documentation, progress, and findings
  • Responsible for Day-to-Day Build Activities
  • Maintain line level open items list
  • Drive DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Drive Validation Documentation
  • Drive common templates and schedule for individual process deliverables.

  • Experience with Early R&D/Pilot Manufacturing Engineering
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes for new and unique products
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and PFMEA execution
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CAL-OSHA, and work place Manufacturing Best Practices / Ergo
  • Experience with equipment and process validation testing
  • Experience transitioning products from prototype to production
  • Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is also a plus)
  • Proficiency creating detailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication techniques (CNC/manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming)
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (tolerance analysis, adhesive bonding, mechanical pressing)
  • Experience developing technical specifications
  • Experience developing automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with mechanical-electrical/mechatronic systems
  • Experience with automation, motion control, PLC programming and HMI design
  • Experience introducing new equipment and new processes into a production environment
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Knowledgeable about production quality metrics
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Exemplary analytical ability, organization skills, and attention to detail
  • Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
