The Global Supply Chain team at Tesla owns our category management strategies and strategic sourcing initiatives. The team gets exposure and opportunities to collaborate with a wide range of business groups including stakeholder groups related to the specific commodity, as well as Legal, and Finance. Global Supply team members are expected to develop strategic business relationships with external suppliers and internal business stakeholders, develop global category strategies for material commodities, lead contract negotiations, drive cost savings initiatives and implement strategic sourcing best practices.

Even interns within our Supply Chain Organization support the development, implementation and management of strategies to provide Tesla with optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality and delivery performance. Interns build and leverages strong working relationships with our engineering teams and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. They work toward good supplier relationships and total costs of ownership to achieve maximum advantage for Tesla and our customers.

Team Overviews:

Logistics: Responsible for the inbound and outbound transportation management, fleet management, materials handling, order fulfillment, logistics network design, and management of third-party logistics services providers. Within logistics, the global trade & compliance department is responsible in maintaining a high level of compliance with import, customs and export rules and regulations while minimizing costs and complexity within Tesla's overall supply chain.

Purchasing: Responsible for sourcing, issuing and evaluating RFQs, resolving commercial issues and complex negotiations, developing commodity strategies and overall supplier management. This team interfaces with Supplier Industrialization, Engineering, Product Excellence, Service and Manufacturing on various projects, including cost reduction and product launch.

Material Planning: Responsible for making sure that all parts and materials needed in production arrive at the factory at the right time. Material Planning's objective is to prevent line downs while keeping inventory levels at a minimum. Planners translate production demand into orders to suppliers, monitor supplier execution, and find solutions for shortage risks.

Automation: Responsible analyzing various aspects of the supply chain's operations and identify opportunities for improvement, and drive implementation for automating such process. Areas of focus include TMS development, analytics, process development, and supporting new market launches. You'd be working on product discovery, design, web development, hardware testing, 3D modeling, camera networks, and maintenance of cyber physical systems.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Preferred current student in undergraduate, masters, or MBA program.
  • 3+ internship, project, or work experience related to this area of expertise.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to relocate for the duration of your internship.
