Supercharger Designer & Drafter - North America

The Role

Based in Fremont CA with flexibility for significant remote work, this role will serve as a designer and drafter for infrastructure projects. Scope of installed equipment is inclusive of energy storage and solar generation, but focused mainly on EV charging via Tesla's Supercharger technology. The North American charging team has set aggressive targets for Supercharger site construction, both in quantity and project scale. Toward those aims, projects in this role will consist of much more than simply drafting layouts. This role will be expected to contribute in the areas of project management, utility coordination, and procurement. This role will need to maintain a view of our charging station deployments across USA and consider relevant regulations and constraints. Technical and interpersonal skills are a must to keep up with and aid our growing team of engineers and project managers distributed in the field. This role will operate primarily in an office setting, but will include travel to build sites and any other trips needed to accomplish our goals.


Creating permitting/planning/construction drawings and utility interconnection documents
  • Single line/Three line diagrams
  • Equipment layouts
  • Interconnection submittals
  • Research and implementation of project specific requirements and regulations

Creating/obtaining/maintaining associated documents required for permitting and construction
  • Bill of materials
  • RFI's
  • Material/equipment specifications
  • Equipment specification sheets

Other responsibilities
  • Coordination with project managers and project developers
  • Coordination with external vendors
  • Coordination with other departments

  • 1 year minimum of commercial electrical project design experience required
  • Experience in construction is desirable but not required
  • 2D and 3D CAD experience or equivalent
  • Superb organizational skills with strong multi-tasking abilities
  • Impeccable communication skills, both writing and speaking - ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of individuals
  • Highly structured individual with affinity for productivity and project management support tools
  • 15% travel based on business needs
  • Highly energetic personality with an ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.

Desired Skills
  • Electrical design knowledge with three phase systems
  • NEC/IBC/ASCE knowledge or experience with code research
  • Experience with AutoDesk ACAD
  • General knowledge of the stages of project development (Conceptualization, Project Design, Utility Review, Permitting Review, Ground break, RFI, Final Inspection, Commissioning)
