Tesla's Design Systems team (TDS) is seeking a Senior User Experience Designer to help drive the evolution of our global product design system. This role is central to the articulation of our brand and unique digital experiences globally and focused on the most advanced vehicles and energy solutions in existence.

In this role, you will research, design, prototype and build new design patterns that are representing the future of energy & vehicles in a way that has never been done before, all with the goal of providing a transformative experience as our customers learn about and purchase our sustainable energy and transportation products.

You possess exceptional design skills, systematic thinking, a great sense of aesthetics, as well as user-centered design principals. The applicant hired will have an affinity for minimal design, typography, rich interactivity and attention to the smallest of details and possess a strong ability to distill complex problems into simple, elegant solutions. We are a fast-paced company with an entrepreneurial spirit, so the majority of the work will be focused on innovating original and creative content and application, as well as final deliverables and solutions that work in the real world.

Responsibilities
  • Define and evangelize our design language and design system including patterns, frameworks, components, micro interactions, layouts and more
  • Partner with product, engineering and other designers to continually evolve and improve our design languages and product experience. Conceptualize and share new ideas for evolving our global product design system.
  • Ensure consistency across all Tesla digital experiences including vehicle UI, native app, website, in-store digital, e-commerce and more. Participate in ongoing reviews to help maintain consistency and drive adoption and usage of design patterns and components
  • Act as liaison to provide feedback and ensure design integrity of projects between design teams, product teams, leadership, developers and project managers
  • Work with leadership and the TDS team to define design pattern backlog and prioritize design elements with the most opportunity for reuse
  • Define project plans and schedules for ongoing rapid design pattern delivery allowing continuous additions and evolution of TDS
  • Contribute to the documentation and publishing of our design guidelines. Design TDS microsite with robust guidelines for internal team consumption and correct implementation of design patterns and components.
  • Define guidelines and best practices for rich content such as a set of common photography sizes, video length and compression, players and more.
  • Maintain and evolve the TDS UI kit, micro-interactions library and templates for both internal teams and external agencies
  • Work with TDS team to provide regular communication of changes and new patterns and components for consumers of TDS


  • Constantly measure how design patterns are performing and iterate to improve experiences
  • Invest in building relationships and trust with stakeholders, peers and working groups. Build a strong network across Tesla, globally.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in web design, interaction design, UI/UX Design, HCI or other evidence of exceptional design ability
  • An excellent portfolio showcasing design systems, patterns, and frameworks for software products & apps including amazing visual design work with a strong design sensibility and dynamic experiences with rich interactivity
  • 5+ years' work experience creating, defining and advocating for world-class experiences for mobile, web, vehicle or other digital devices
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices and global design
  • Must be highly skilled in design tools Sketch, Finto, Framer, Principle or equivalent applications
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently but also collaborative and driven by group critique
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively present complex information clearly and bring clarity to stakeholders and team members. Strong ability to communicate design pattern concepts through showing application across experiences. Experienced and comfortable with presenting work to executives and large groups.
  • Experience thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative, cross-disciplinary and geographically dispersed environment under minimal supervision
