The Role

Planning automation is a key component of Tesla's Sales and Business Operations organization as it increases the scale and complexity of its business with Model 3.

This role is part of the Global Business Forecasting team, which is also responsible for mid- to long-term cross-functional planning in sales and business operations. Integrating closely with the rest of this team to align short-term and long-term plans is critical.

As Senior Planning Automation Analyst, you will be responsible for several key projects throughout the sales, operations, and business planning organization. The most critical of these in the short term will be optimizing Model 3 distribution and business operations.

  • Rapidly develop and implement frameworks and systems to handle key challenges as Tesla scales up Model 3:
    • Balancing supply and demand regionally
    • Matching existing and future orders with production to balance logistics capacities, demand forecasts, and other business constraints
    • Manage order flow to optimize operations while keeping customer wait times predictable and fair
  • Serve as a specialist in the broader Sales and Business Operations team dedicated to tackling programmatic problems in an abstract and repeatable way
  • Develop automated models that produce operationally-ready results
  • Work with IT to develop systems dedicated to solving deeply-integrated business questions
  • Work with business intelligence, systems, and rest of forecasting team to design and develop data structures to support complex automated decision making

  • Belief in Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy
  • 3+ years' experience working with structured data to drive operational business results
  • Business-oriented and driven by big-picture goals, but technically inclined
  • Mastery of SQL and data architecture required
  • Ability to think abstractly about specific problems and translate them into technical solutions
  • Concrete technical abilities with demonstrable examples of real-world impact
  • Experience with a major programming language (Java, Python, PHP, etc.)
  • Comfort with agile development and related best practices for version control
  • Strong background and experience in statistical forecasting, advanced planning analytics and data science
  • Statistical or Computer Science degree (CS, Statistics, Math, Economics, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Willingness to tackle diverse projects and embrace ambiguity and rapid change
  • Incredible work ethic - willing to go way above and beyond
