The Role

The Sr. Global Trade Compliance (GTC) Analyst is responsible for leading a variety of trade compliance initiatives on domestic and global levels. The candidate will primarily serve as a resident GTC expert responsible for implementing and maintaining policies and procedures pertaining to U.S. Customs programs and regulations. The Sr. GTC Analyst will also play a critical role in mitigating risks associated with import/export operations, while simultaneously identifying cost-savings opportunities through use of various trade programs and initiatives. The candidate will work with related Tesla business functions and external stakeholders, across multiple jurisdictions, to drive and deliver exceptional service, ensuring uninterrupted customs and supply chain operations.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain corporate policies and procedures, driving company-wide compliance with global trade programs and initiatives.
  • Team with third party service providers, e.g., customs brokers, freight forwarders, etc., as necessary, to implement and/or maintain trade and logistics processes in support of operations.
  • Support internal, external, and government-directed compliance audits and assessments.
  • Manage U.S. Customs reconciliation program.
  • Create and deliver import/export compliance training materials, providing support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present reports identifying updates and metrics related to import and export operations.
  • Support Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification, Schedule B classification, and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) determination.
  • Support various trade preference programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as a functional expert in Global Trade Compliance, using experience and knowledge of U.S. and foreign customs regulations, as well as other partner governmental agencies, to promote increased compliance within the organization.

  • BA/BS degree or evidence of exceptional ability and experience.
  • 4+ years' relevant experience with global trade compliance responsibilities in a complex import/export environment.
  • Ability to drive complex, cross-functional projects including setting scope, reaching consensus, execution, and presenting results.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized; ability to multi-task several projects at once.
  • Experience applying classification, country of origin, and trade preference knowledge/decisions to support import/export operations.
  • Experience with U.S. Customs reconciliation program preferred.
  • Ability to write, speak, and present effectively and persuasively.
  • Self-driven initiative to gain and share a broader knowledge of supply chain.
  • Experience with MS Office Applications, including knowledge of Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with maintaining trade master data in enterprise resourcing planning (ERP) systems and related databases.
  • Experience interacting with U.S. Customs and other government agencies.
  • U.S. licensed customs broker strongly preferred.
