The Role

Tesla Sales Operations is hiring a Global Distribution Planner to design and operate the geographic distribution of Model 3, deciding where each car goes once it gets built. Model 3's scale, combined with Tesla's direct-to-customer model fundamentally disrupts Tesla's own distribution model and the automotive industry's as a whole. Effectively managing Model 3 supply post-production is critical to the company's success.

  • Manage Tesla's geographic allocation of Model 3 to fulfill demand while resolving outbound supply chain constraints
  • Build tools and strategies to effectively route vehicles as they come out of the factory and match existing cars as they become available
  • Design an effective just-in-time inventory model that will allow Tesla to achieve scale without the inefficiencies of traditional automotive distribution
  • Work with forecasting team to provide clear visibility into anticipated changes in distribution over time
  • Partner with logistics and delivery teams to incorporate existing constraints into routing model, identify bottlenecks in advance, and deal with unexpected challenges as they arise
  • Partner with finance to determine strategies for optimizing working capital
  • Present business cases for distribution changes and investments to senior leadership of sales, finance, logistics, and delivery
  • Implement distribution strategies both through ad-hoc code (SQL, Python, etc.) and partnering with IT to develop scalable long term solutions

  • Bachelor's degree in Business (Masters/MBA preferred), Supply Chain, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability
  • 4+ years related experience in Logistics, Operations Planning, Inventory Planning, Demand Planning, Outbound Supply Chain, or Business Planning
  • SQL skills required; Python or other programming experience preferred
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel required
  • Proven ability to independently own an operational process, especially in manufacturing or a large company
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build organic support for key initiatives
  • Excellent judgment and ability to proactively anticipate complex chain-reaction impacts of plans
  • Self-motivation, strong work ethic, and a passion for being hands-on in their work
  • Embrace of change and rapid pace of work
