Description

The Role:

The Sr. Controls Engineer in Production Control Engineering team will be responsible for commissioning, improving and maintaining industrial controls systems. The specific control systems include, but are not limited to Material Management software, PLC's, HMI's, VFD's, AGV's, vision and robotics.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop improvements plans, and maintain existing automation systems, for improving material flow through the factory using Lean Principles. The design includes material arrival at docks, through delivery to line-side locations. The focus will be to maintain and improve existing automation control systems and hardware.
  • Targeted goals include:
    • Dramatic reduction in material handling systems MTTR and MTBF
      • Improvements to HMI's for maintenance.
      • Equipment OEE reporting.
  • Concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, and collaboration with 3 rd parties on system builds, integration testing, project management, implementation, and handoff to operations.
  • Support advanced trouble-shooting and improvement of existing material flow systems that are beyond the scope of the maintenance team.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and or Mechatronics
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain and/or distribution and logistics experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems
  • Knowledge of material flow methodologies including sequencing, kitting, repack, etc.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts with the ability to lead efforts for continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty.
  • Natural ability to speak and write effectively in English at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in manipulating and creating drawings with AutoCAD software

In addition to the minimum requirements above, the Sr. Controls Engineer should have knowledge of the following specific controls systems topics:
  1. Proficient in developing, troubleshooting and maintaining of the following PLC Controls:
  • Of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, optical, discrete voltage, analog, digital, field bus systems, etc.
  • Rockwell Logix 5, 500 and 5000, with Safety Partner; EIP networking
  • Siemens S7(Ladder/STL) and TIA Portal, ProfiNet/Profibus networking
  • Circuit design and troubleshooting of industrial fieldbus networks such as, EIP, Profibus, ProfiNet, and AS-i.
  1. Practical knowledge of equipment standards:
  • ANSI RIA 15.06
  • ANSI B11.19
  • ANSI B11.20
  • NFPA 70
  • NFPA 79
  • Developing equipment Risk Assessments
  1. Develop, and review control configuration and programming in accordance with Tesla design documents in order to meet or establish compliance of the functional requirements.
  • Tag definition schemes, programming structure techniques, network communications, alarming schemes, I/O structure, process/equipment to be automated, and interpreting functional description.
  • Interpreting control strategies and logic, programming and/or configuration capabilities with interfacing systems.
  • Software products Kepware, Inductive Automation, OPC UA, and RS Linx,


  1. Industrial network knowledge that maximizes throughput to ensure efficiency and reliability.
  • Industrial network topology and protocols, physical media specifications.
  • Interfacing and gateways, data mapping , analyzing throughput to ensuring data integrity
  • Industrial wireless configuration and troubleshooting


  1. Proficient in developing, troubleshooting and maintaining Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)
  • HMI alarming and reporting.
  • Presenting data in a logical and aesthetic fashion, creating intuitive navigation menus for maintenance and production personal.
  • Following department standards, and developing new objects and libraries for use


  1. Test the automation system using the test plan in order to determine compliance with functional requirements.
  • Testing and simulation techniques , functional requirements of system/equipment to be automated, writing test plans, executing test plans and documenting test results

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Intimate knowledge of Material Management Software integration in a distribution environment.
  • Solid modeling software package experience
  • Proficient with all aspects of Ignition SCADA software
  • Proficient with all aspects of Fanuc robot and vision programming.
  • Proficient Dematic DiQ and ML and MS system troubleshooting and maintaining
  • Proficient Swisslog Sync and PowerStore system troubleshooting and maintaining
