The Wylfa Newydd Project will be executed under a Project Management Contract (PMC), in which the overall scope of services is to provide project management services, including Project Controls, Contract Management, and Construction Site Management to facilitate the delivery of two electric generating plants at Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station (WNNPS) using the Hitachi ABWR design as described in the Generic Design Application.


Role Overview:

Assigned to the Gloucester office, as a representative of the Construction functional group serving as a link between Construction and the Engineering/Procurement teams. Ensures that construction requirements are made known to the respective Engineering/Procurement teams in a timely manner and obtains construction responses to the needs of other members of the project team. Supports early participation in the design development process by providing constructability input, with a focus on improving construction safety and quality, while seeking to optimise cost and schedule. Supports the development of the procurement strategy and it's implementation through the bid, evaluate and award cycle.

Position may include travel to engineering/procurement offices to participate in design reviews and resolve technical issues as required.


Initial assignment location is Gloucester UK. Site mobilisation is forecast in 2020/2021 for construction execution in Anglesey Island, Wales.

Essential Duties:
  • Develop constructability and CDM concepts and provide guidance to the design effort during the early phases of the project.
  • Lead constructability and CDM reviews during the design process, with support from site construction team, in area of responsibility.
  • Work with the design teams to ensure CDM requirements are incorporated into the design, layout and specifications.
  • Participate in design development and suggest economical construction details to be incorporated into design drawings and specifications, utilising lessons learnt from other projects and construction best practices
  • Monitor and track engineering actions items critical to support construction activities
  • Monitor the completeness of engineering and procurement deliverables to support the construction schedule
  • Support engineering and procurement schedule development
  • Support Engineering, Procurement and Construction (required on-site date) schedule optimisation.
  • Represent construction in engineering and procurement schedule review meetings.
  • Utilise the plant design model to identify construction sequencing.
  • Drive consistency of engineering data to ensure compatibility with construction automation tools.
  • Participate in execution centre and field meetings with project team members and client personnel, as required, e.g., project review meetings.
  • Identify potential problem areas or trends and works on total installed cost and continuous iimprovement issues.
  • Maintain communications with the field organisation and engineering/procurement project team members regarding significant problem areas and potential solutions
  • Perform and coordinate the construction review of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate the construction review of vendor drawings, shop fabrication details, erection procedures, on behalf of construction.
  • Coordinate 3D model and building information model inputs/outputs to support construction automation tool development and use.
  • Attends, and minutes, the weekly progress and technical review meetings between client, engineering and construction.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Construction planning experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction installation operations, in a specified discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge of current industry construction quality standards.
  • Knowledge of local labour laws and issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of a specific construction engineering discipline gained through a combination of related education and construction experience.
  • Broad based knowledge of the function and interrelationships of field construction entities and operations.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Knowledge of the impact and effect of using field automation tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance laws and requirements.
  • Knowledge of government compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards
  • Right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
  • Ability to obtain required BPSS security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nuclear construction experience.
  • Working knowledge of construction installation operations, in a multiple disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Construction Nuclear Work Process Procedures.
  • Familiar with Bechtel's Business Ethics handbook and policies.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Large scale project construction delivery experience (1B £ +) preferred.
  • Understands and applies the requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes to area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.
  • Knowledge of the current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.


The above qualifications are typically acquired through the following:
  •  A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, OR
  • Specialized courses in construction management, AND/OR
  • Work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
