Overview / Responsibilities
A site manager is required to oversee and monitor all site based construction activities of a 250 MW windfarm in southern Ukraine. A key task is to record observation and progress, and report these back to Wood's Project Management team. This site based role is expected to run from October 2018 through to quarter 4 of 2019.
Project management and technical support will be provided to the Site Manager from Wood's Glasgow based Clean Energy team. Additional support will be provided by resident site engineer, key stage visits by specialists from Wood's Glasgow office, and local consultants hired to work in parallel with Wood's team.
  • Working in parallel on site with Wood's Site Engineer, and other local consultants
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting of the Health, Safety and Environmental performance of the contractor(s)
  • Assist Wood's H&S manager in carrying out H&S audits
  • Assist Wood's Environmental manager in carrying out audits
  • Reviewing and commenting on site health and safety documentation from the contractors, checking that appropriate construction risk assessments and method statements are in place for works being undertaken, prior to their commencement. This work will be supported by Wood's specialist H&S team
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting of the contractor(s) compliance with permits and other regulations and requirements
  • Liaising with key site parties and leading the on site interfacing with the contractor(s)
  • Monitor and record the contractor's construction works and interfaces during construction phase for all works at site including assessing compliance with the environmental and social impact assessment and other environmental documentation, in conjunction with the Client's local advisor and Wood's specialist environmental team
  • Check that such construction methods conform to contractual requirements, international standards and good industry practice
  • Manage and maintain site files and registers
  • Record and report on site construction activities including production of:
    • Daily log/diary.
    • Weekly report (including photographic record) to be issued including any key safety issues.
    • Input into Wood's monthly report, and site progress meetings.
    • Oversee/inspect on-site and off-site works to assure the quality of the work performed are in compliance with contract specifications, design drawings and consents.
    • Monitor key construction events, through sample inspection of these activities to check that the contractors are complying with the contract requirements and the contractors' project Quality Plan.
    • Measure and verify quantities of work so to assist in the certification of the main contractors' payment application.

Skills / Qualifications
  • An appropriate qualification in Civil Engineering, degree level would be an advantageous but equivalent experience would also be considered
  • Have appropriate health and safety experience, training and qualifications in line with international standards for roles of this nature to be able to identify and halt unsafe works
  • Previous experience of undertaking the role of site manager on a wind farm or power plant project. Construction experience in Ukraine would be an advantage but is not essential
  • Have previous experience in the installation and commissioning of key elements of the project including, but not limited to the following:
    • Concrete batching, placing, testing and curing
    • Reinforcement detailing, fixing and inspection
    • Road and drainage design and construction
    • Building construction including foundations, walls, roofing, internal and external finishes and building services
    • Cable trenching methods and installation
    • Excavation and geotechnical assessment of foundation formation soils
    • Site Lifting Plans and crane lifting operations including unloading and lifting of large components (using cranes and other mechanised lifting devices)
  • Have previous experience in the installation and commissioning of key elements of the project including, but not limited to the following:
    • High voltage switchgear (up to 400kV)
    • Grid transformers
    • Power transformers
    • Medium voltage switchgear
    • Reactive compensation equipment
    • Power and control cabling
    • Protection systems
    • SCADA systems
    • Earthing systems
    • Fibre optic cabling and systems
    • Site telecoms systems
    • LV power systems and auxiliary equipment including control and instrumentation
    • Grid connection interface works
    • Electrical HV safety rules & safe systems of work
    • Civil works associated with the electrical installation, such as plinths etc
  • Have experience of WTGs:
    • WTG deliveries and recording of defects
    • erection, installation and commissioning operations
    • Experience with stakeholder liaison
  • Be knowledgeable on international standards and 'best practice' in relation to construction
  • Be knowledgeable on environmental legislation and good industry practice in relation to construction works
  • Be knowledgeable on the key applicable standards and specifications associated with the civil and electrical works construction for sites of this nature
  • Ability to be proactive and recommend and approve corrective actions if required
  • Ability to work remotely but integrate with the Wood's wider team
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and to accurately and concisely report both verbally and in writing
  • Full European driving licence
  • IT proficiency, in particular MS Word, MS Excel, or similar
