Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently recruiting for Piping Stress Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry.

  • Ensure that engineering activities on assigned projects are executed within budgeted manhours and approved schedules, in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with Wood Procedures and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa
  • Prepare requisition index for special piping items, indicating planned issue date for each requisition. Update and reissue monthly
  • Prepare and check pipe stress calculations as required
  • Review and approve flowsheets for correctness of depicting piping and materials
  • Review and approve all piping drawings and ensure that the quality of design and drawings produced for enquiry and fabrication purposes is of satisfactory standard
  • Prepare technical bid analysis for special piping items


Skills / Qualifications
  • B. Sc. / B. Eng. in Mech. Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2+ years of applicable experience and registered with ECSA as a professional engineer or engineering technologist
  • Knowledge of Piping Codes like ASME B 31.3, ASME B31.4 and ASME B31.8
  • Knowledge of Piping Layout Design and Piping Material Engineering
  • Knowledge of Caesar II is a must. Knowledge of other Flexibility Analysis software is an added advantage
  • Must have the ability to conduct flexibility analysis of and should be proficient in Isometric checking from a stress perspective of:
    • High temperature and high-pressure lines with associated supporting
    • Lines connected with reciprocating and rotating equipment
    • Two phase flow lines
    • PSV systems
  • Good team player with proven leadership skills and excellent communication skill
