Vestas Power Solutions (VPS) is responsible for developing, verifying and industrializing wind turbines and related products.
It is here that we lay Vestas' technical- and technological foundation for staying the global leader in sustainable energy solutions by continuously reducing Levelized Cost of Energy.

The Powertrain department in VPS currently consists of around 55 highly skilled employees, primarily situated in Denmark and in Germany and with local teams in China and US. The department is accountable for the Powertrain System converting the mechanical energy from the wind turbine rotor into electrical energy. The Powertrain System consists of main components such as the main gearbox, generator, main shaft bearings, lubrication system and the auxiliary components such as brakes, couplings and suspension/damper systems.

We have an immediate opening for a Manager for the Drivetrain/DE department in Dortmund, Germany, which consists of approx. 17 employees External/Consultants. The team is responsible for development and maintenance of Powertrain Systems and Components for Vestas' wind turbine platforms. Activities hereunder involves all facets of product development; from scope definition in collaboration with System- & Product level leads, to specification of concepts and requirements, to product development and to final validation in the field. Many activities in between are anchored at external partners such as suppliers, consultancy networks, universities or at our design hubs in Portugal and India, and this aspect requires a candidate who holds good communication skills, a commercial mindset, and not least- distinct ability to drive technical and challenging projects forward.

Your responsibility will be Management of the Drivetrain/DE department; you will report to the Director of Powertrain and you will be part of the Management team, which lays out the strategy and drives initiatives across our four teams in Denmark and Germany.

Main activities under this responsibility will include:
  • Ensure timely execution of department deliverables such as high-quality products and documentation
  • Department resource planning and delegation of work
  • Budget planning and controlling
  • People performance and development dialogue (incl. one-to-one, target setting, development plans)
  • Coach employees in execution of daily tasks
  • Recruitment of new employees
  • Engage external consultants/networks
  • Coordinate work btw. Sites and global hubs in Portugal and India
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relations across Vestas' full value chain (technology, manufacturing, service)
  • In collaboration with project managers; facilitate planning sessions and follow up on progress
  • Identify cost/ efficiency optimizations in our processes
  • In collaboration with Vestas Facility Management; secure daily operation of the office
  • Execute strategic initiatives across the Powertrain department
  • Embrace challenges/changes and stay available to rethink the we do things
You must always have a good overview of the all tasks and activities, which goes on in the department and be prepared to communicate time schedules and resource constraints, and to negotiate priorities.

  • Diploma-/or Master degree in relevant area e.g. Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of management/project management experience from a larger organization
  • Experienced in management of product development teams
  • Experienced in management of projects of high technical complexity
  • You are trained/ certified within principles of Prince 2
  • You are familiar with Six Sigma development tools and methodologies
  • Excellent language skills in English (speaking and writing) required
  • You have strong leadership and communication skills and are capable of acting as a motivator through an open dialogue
  • You are pro-active; result oriented and has a strong sense of responsibility
  • You have an excellent commercial/business understanding and can naturally incorporate external partners, as well as the full value chain of Vestas, into your daily work.
  • You must have good organizational and communication skills and you must be able to work within an international and multi-disciplinary team
  • You are motivated in working with KPI's and performance metrics
