Goal/Mission
Reporting to the Head of Projects you bear entrepreneurial responsibility for the technical and commercial success of projects. You will be expected to plan, monitor, and deliver all internal and external Projects to the required Time, Cost, and Quality drivers ensuring customer satisfaction and maximising opportunities for increased revenue.
Working Partners/Contacts: Senior Management Team, Head of Projects, Engineering Management, Sales and Tendering Management, Engineers, sub-contractors and senior customer stakeholders / management
Tasks: This role incorporates the requirement of the PM role profile according to PM@Siemens
The key areas of responsibility for this post will require the appointee to properly perform a number of activities, which include:
Customer Management
  • Actively gathers information on the customer and the customer's requirements/targets
  • Involves the customer in decision-making and provides regular information
  • Manages customer expectations and concludes the project to the satisfaction of the customer
  • Identifies cross-Division business opportunities
  • Creates additional business opportunities out of the ongoing project
  • Devises and implements strategies for strengthening market and customer commitment
Bid, Contract Management
  • Is actively involved in the bid phase, analyzing customer requirements and examining their technical feasibility and transferability into a bid
  • Ensures that the LoA process with all risk assessments (including compliance) is followed
  • Examines the bid costing in terms of financial efficiency
  • Ensures that incoming order costing is done and documented
  • Involves the relevant partners in the bid phase
  • Ensures that all planning elements (e.g. system structure, work breakdown structure, ... ) are included in the bid phase
  • Influences formulation of the necessary contracts
  • Ensures that the results of risk assessments and compliance risk assessments are appropriately addressed in contracts and in costing
  • Negotiates with stakeholders on Change Requests and incorporates them into contracts
  • Supports order negotiations
Risk, Opportunity, Issue Management
  • Throughout project life cycle, identifies and assesses all risk factors utilizing available risk measurement tools
  • Devises suitable strategies for risk mitigation (elimination, reduction)
  • Implement procedure for solving issues and problems (identification, analysis, actions and controlling) with all necessary internal and external partners
  • Identifies and minimizes non-conformance costs
  • Ensures risk monitoring in all project phases
  • Throughout project life cycle identifies, assesses, and implements all opportunities for improving results
  • Assesses risks in terms of effects on the Division, defines measures/action to be taken and ensures early escalation
Claim Management
  • Involves the project team in the identification of claims
  • Assesses contracts in terms of claim-relevant significance, ensures examination by legal expert
  • Puts the strategy for making/mitigating claims rigorously into practice
  • At an early stage, informs customer, management and project team of scope deviations
  • At an early stage, identifies and mitigates external claims
  • Conducts (jointly with procurement and sales) negotiations on making/mitigating claims
  • Devises (with business coordinators) the strategy for making/mitigating claims
  • Enforces legitimate claims and fends off unjustified claims
Partner Management
  • Involves qualified subcontractors/partners in a timely manner
  • Selects subcontractors/partners according to defined criteria
  • Rigorously monitors the performance of the subcontractors/partners, conducts timely escalation (in the event of qualitative shortfalls and problems in cooperation) and, where there are any discrepancies, initiates timely suitable action
  • Selects subcontractors/partners based on strategic viewpoints
  • Identifies further opportunities for business with the partner(s)
Procurement and Logistics
  • Involves procurement at an early stage according to valid Siemens procurement rules
  • Ensures that all procurement acticvities comply with the valid processes and regulations
  • Negotiates based on defined requirements with subcontractors/partners and enters into back-to-back agreements in alignment with the customer contract
  • Plans (in local procurement) the procurement strategy with the business coordinator and Sector/Division or Cluster/Regional procurement
Financial Management
  • Manages the project within the defined financial targets (budget, target costing, target profit)
  • Ensures compliance with IFRS (International Finance and Reporting Standards)
  • Optimizes project profitability and ensures business success
  • Lives Profit & Loss responsibility for the project as defined in the Project Manager (Target) Agreement
  • Initiates invoicing according to project progress
  • Ensures regular financial controlling and reporting (concurrent costing / \"MIKA\")
  • Optimizes the project cash flow and assets
  • Working with Siemens stakeholders, takes strategic viewpoints into account when managing the finances of the project
  • Supports Siemens stakeholders, develops targeted financing models in agreement with Corporate partners
Project Planning, Controlling and Closure
  • Manages the project within the defined time and quality framework
  • Handles all PM@Siemens-relevant planning elements and milestone work results according to the project category
  • Sets up and maintains the Siemens Project Management Plan
  • Defines procedures and requirements concerning quality management (audits, test seals, acceptance checks) according to valid Quality Management regulations and standards
  • Monitors continuously the project status, taking into account IFRS, early identification of discrepancies and initiates targeted actions
  • Holds regular project status meetings and organizes acceptance of milestone work results
  • Manages acceptance of delivery units and services, performing quality controls
  • Documents all work results according to the valid document management standards
  • Organizes customer acceptance tests and final project handover to contract partner(s)
Leadership & Communication
  • Ensures efficient communication with all relevant stakeholders
  • Ensures targeted and full communication within the project team
  • Agrees targets with project staff and delegates defined responsibilities and authority
  • Monitors the motivation of the project team
  • Coaches and controls the team/individual members of staff
  • Holds feedback sessions with each directly assigned member of staff
  • Seeks active feedback (e.g. from members of staff, managers, customers)
  • Provides input in the context of PMP (Performance Management Process)
  • Consults manager of staff members concerning their individual training and development
Networking for business development
  • Communicates on a cross-Sector/Division or Cluster/Region level with internal contacts on opportunities for doing further business
  • Cooperates with line experts on Business Development
Knowledge Management
  • Seeks and actively utilizes sources of information, knowledge and experience
  • Analyzes information, knowledge and experience, and makes project learning available
  • Conducts a project closure meeting and a Lessons Learned Workshop
  • Seizes opportunities to learn from others and to exchange experience
  • Coaches/Mentors new project managers according to requirements
Business Integrity
  • Seeks and actively utilizes information on current compliance with relevant policies and regulations within Siemens: mainly Business Conduct / Tax regulations / Delegation of employees / Export Control / EHS (environment, health and safety)
  • Involves the respective Compliance Officer(s)
  • Forwards all relevant information to the project team members and partners
  • Sets up a framework to ensure regular checks of the compliance in the project, e.g. by conducting Compliance Risk (Re-) Assessments at the appropriate milestones / Quality Gates
Education: Expected to have a relevant Bachelors Degree qualification or equivalent, APMP professional qualification or equivalent, and certification by PM@Siemens Assessment Board at Project Manager level.
Experience:
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation, DCS systems, electrical switchgear, transformer & generator protection and steam / gas turbines installations in a power generation context
  • Considerable knowledge acquired in applicable engineering / development / commercial activity with varying duties/functions
  • Experience of managing category C projects of different project environments (customers / partners / scope / countries / etc. Team sized managed: ≥ 6 team members
  • Has successful experience of working abroad; or has worked in teams made up of international members
  • Experience of successfully managing E,C & I projects on UK Power Plants
  • A proven ability to monitor and control planned costs against budgeted and actual costs and expected to maximise profit margins on projects through close control of costs and through contract variations.
  • A good understanding of financial risks and risk management tools is essential as is the ability to influence costs throughout the project.
Knowledge/Languages:
  • Technology: Specific knowledge of Siemens P3000 optimisation and Siprotec protection relay applications will be a distinct advantage
  • Processes / Tools: A demonstrable working knowledge of both PM@Siemens processes and project reporting in PMTC.
  • IT Knowledge: computer literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools particularly Excel, Word and Microsoft Project.
  • Languages: must be fluent in spoken and written English. A basic knowledge of spoken German would be advantageous.
