Job Summary:

To provide full lifecycle systems engineering activities in support of software development activities for DoD and commercial applications and products.

Work Scope (Duties & Responsibilities):

• Develops, analyses and decomposes requirements and generates related documentation (such as the RTM, SSS, SRS, etc), and ensures proper processes are followed.

• Performs Systems Engineering tasks in a software environment that includes Windows PC, mobile device, and/or special purpose systems.

• Prepares and supports activities and work products for peer and major reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR.

• Plans, designs, integrates and tests software for aeronautical and aviation related applications, as well as commercial systems. Evaluates work products and software builds for compliance with requirements, design and user needs.

• Applies full lifecycle System Engineering principles and techniques to produce efficient and maintainable software that runs in a system or operational environment used for data acquisition, transfer, display, decision making, user situational awareness, and other capabilities.

• Provides technical support and information to the team throughout the development lifecycle, and supports analyses and resolution of technical issues as they arise.

• Participates in working groups, events, meetings and other collaborative activities with the development team, customers, and users; prepares and reviews technical reports and software documentation.

• Completion of employee performance appraisals and employee counselings, if assigned the responsibilities of employee supervision.

Bachelor's degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of progressive, relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a computer or system science and four (4) years of progressive experience, or a PhD in a computer of system science discipline and zero (0) years of related experience.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Knowledge of, and skill in applying, most of the following preferred:
  • Systems Engineering principles, methods, and practices used in DoD software development projects;
  • systems development life cycle management concepts; to include requirements, software integration, and Verification and Validation activities;
  • Knowledge of requirements, design and test management systems and tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, and Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS);
  • Experience with Windows operating systems; and general familiarity with software programming languages such as C++ and C#.
  • metrics and performance monitoring principles and methods;
  • quality assurance principles;
  • technical documentation methods and procedures;
  • systems security methods and procedures;
  • analytical methods;
  • good oral and written communication techniques;

Sufficient to accomplish assignments such as:
  • perform routine and recurring assignments in the specialty area;
  • identify and resolve issues and problems;
  • prepare and update manuals, instructions, and operating procedures;
  • provide information and assistance to customers;
  • evaluate established methods and procedures and prepare recommendations for changes in methods and practices where appropriate;
  • ensure the application of appropriate security measures to the assignment.

  • Independently plans and carries out the assignments in conformance with accepted policies, processes, practices and reference material; adheres to instructions, policies, and guidelines in exercising judgment to resolve commonly encountered work problems and deviations; and brings controversial information or findings to the supervisor's attention for direction.
  • Uses judgment in researching, choosing, interpreting, modifying, and applying available guidelines for adaptation to specific problems or issues.

• Work involves: establishing criteria; formulating projects; assessing program effectiveness; and/or investigating a variety of unusual conditions, problems, or issues.

  • The employee uses judgment and originality by: interpreting data; planning the work; and refining the methods and techniques being used.

Essential Requirements :

Physical Requirements: Sedentary-involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some walking and standing may occur in the course of a normal workday in connection with travel to and from meeting and conferences. May carry light items, such as reports, data products, notebooks and laptops.

Work Environment :

Cubical environment in a restricted work area.

Criticality of Attendance :

Must be able to work within the shift hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance is considered essential.

Equipment and Machines :

Standard office equipment and machines: personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

Other Essential Functions :

Must be able to secure and maintain a security clearance, if applicable.

Must pass drug testing.

Must be able to read and write effectively in English.

Must embrace Beyond Zero/Safety principles of Jacobs to include; adhering to safe work practices and standards while performing daily tasks, taking responsibility for own and coworkers' safekeeping and encouraging others to work safely.

Must be able to work under supervision and respond appropriately and professionally to criticism from a supervisor.

Travel requirements - may require occasional to frequent travel.
