Primary Job Functions:
  • Lead and coordinate all key functions associated with the sale and development of utility-scale PV system in compliance with the relevant market schemes and regulations and business development concerning the establishment of a solid relationship network to regional transaction and strategic customers and stakeholder in the renewable energy market. Ensuring the perception of First Solar's advanced thin-film technology with customers to prepare and successfully contract agreements to sell of First Solar's modules and technology.
  • Leading the activities to maintain and develop a PV project pipeline in Germany, targeting a market share for First Solar of 20%+
  • Leading the activities to develop and maintain strong relationships the assigned key accounts with the target share of their annual procurement volume of 15%+
  • Build relationships with German power generation companies and public/administrative and commercial stakeholders, with demonstrated success in converting relationships and experience into commercial results
  • Develop trusted high-level professional relationships with customers, partners and those entities influencing the buying decisions (including commercial entities, government officials and industry stakeholders)
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams within First Solar to execute the business plan
  • Monitor the environment for 'quality' projects that may be acquired and folded into First Solar's power portfolio
  • Drive contract negotiations

  • Drive results by leveraging strong analytical skills, including a high level of business acumen and financial sophistication to assess implications of tactical decisions
  • Clear understanding of local/regional laws and regulations and the implications on the business.
  • Respect corporate governance and compliance rules of First Solar and act transparent and in respect of FCPA ruling
  • In coordination with First Solar support functions develop and maintain relationships with local and global investors and banks and other sources of funding.
  • Participate in relevant industry associations and be willing to present and network at relevant industry and government sponsored events.

  • Coordinate and manage support provided by outside advisors and counsel.


Related Experience & Educational Requirements:

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial and high energy leader who can drive results in market entry and business development for First Solar in Germany. A strategic, out of the box thinker who can proactively contribute to the development of the business in the Germany, and who has the interpersonal skills to enhance the overall effectively through actively engaging with local, regional and global level teams and management.
  • A seasoned executive with minimum of 10 years of work experience in project and business development.
  • Experience in business development of utility-scale power generation assets is required
  • Experience in leading commercial negotiations of complex business structures including partnerships, joint ventures and other supply/sales agreements is required. Specific experience negotiating Power Purchase, Engineering Procurement & Construction, and Operation & Maintenance agreements is a plus.
  • Successfully trained and led business development group(s)/team(s) in the EU. Prior business unit management including all aspects of profit and loss and risk management and reporting.
  • An individual who is capable of shaping and communicating a clear vision and developing enabling strategies, plans, and development goals, and securing the buy-in of regional, global management. Able to demonstrate sound financial, analytical, and numeric skills with an eye toward the financial implications of proposed decisions.
  • The ideal candidate should have demonstrated sufficient business acumen to consistently deliver growth from across product sales and solution provision simultaneously.
  • Sound general management skills and can balance the demands of top line growth with good cost control and local management.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with regulatory and commercial and governmental entities; and partners and customers.
  • A resilient, tenacious and creative ability to overcome roadblocks and solving problems as they arise.
  • Experience living or working internationally and previous work experience with international or multi-national companies would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and rapidly changing business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate crisply, enthusiastically, frequently and effectively.
  • Team player who removes barriers to working with others.
  • Ability to travel for more than 50% of his available time.
    Education & languages:
  • An undergraduate degree in a business or engineering discipline is required.
  • An MBA is viewed favorably.
  • Main working language is English. Working knowledge of German is a must. German and other European languages considered a plus
