Role synopsis
The successful candidate will be responsible for generating, tracking and executing trade confirmations for various types of physical and financial energy commodity trades including but not limited to gas, power, crude and NGL's. Key components contributing to the candidate's success will include 1) the ability to work in a fast-paced trading and marketing environment and meet tight deadlines 2) effective communication and coordination between BP customers and internal groups including Commercial, General Counsel, and the Contracts team 3) comply with all BP employee compliance requirements, code of ethics, and internal policies and procedures.

Key accountabilities
  • Generate, track and execute trade confirmations for various types of physical and financial energy commodity trades including but not limited to gas, power, crude and NGL's.
  • Review confirmations received and reconcile to risk system trade details.
  • Generate and review exception reports to review incomplete confirmed trades.
  • Research and take action to ensure all trades are confirmed within company guideline timeframes.
  • Comply with written procedures on Confirmations activity; recommend revisions and/or write procedures and revisions.
  • Interact with and obtain cooperation of Brokers, Counterparties, Traders, Legal, and other Company personnel.
  • Use judgment and experience in identifying discrepancies, obtaining input on corrective action, and resolving differences.
  • Utilize new technologies to increase accuracy and improve output.
  • Work as part of a team supporting multiple risk management systems, with individual knowledge of and input to, confirmation, counterparty, monitoring and compliance modules.
  • Develop process improvements to continually automate, enhance, and improve efficiency of confirmation and counterparty information.
  • Comply with audit requests.
  • Appropriately handle deviations and exceptions and escalate any significant control breakdown and/or any incipient or improper accounting.

  • Ability to work with traders and other groups to find ways to overcome counterparty resistance to BP terms and conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently and to use discretion to escalate as appropriate.
  • Strong track record of delivering results.
  • Has a focus on continuous improvement and seeks/proposes improvements to how work is done.
  • Ability to understand the specific requirements and transactions controls within the business area and operates successfully within them.
  • Ability to operate at a high level of productivity in reviewing and identifying material differences in 3rd party and broker confirmations.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service, both for internal and external customers.
