PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
This job is responsible for managing a workforce for the development and maintenance of work practices across the electric and/or gas lines of business within the Utility. Managing the resources required to oversee, initiate, develop, evaluate, and implement new and revised field work practices and procedures owned by line organizations in conjunction with the testing and approving of new tools, practices, and equipment. Additional responsibilities include the effective management of safety, productivity, and financial areas of the work and to proactively initiate action plans to deal with change management, budget issues and priorities in order to continuously meet customer needs. The Manager - Methods also coordinates closely with peer organizations including but not limited to: Training, Engineering, and Safety, to insure the seamless delivery of services to customers in a timely manner, and manages resources to meet emergent issues and system emergencies. This position may be required to work extended hours, including 24x7coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1Performs the duties of a leader with respect to coaching, motivation, performance management, communication, hiring, promotion, discipline, and policy administration. Conduct Performance Planning and Appraisal process. Identify opportunities for growth and learning.
2Prepare, approve, and manage departmental strategy, goals and budgets within assigned areas of responsibility. Utilize key financial & performance indicators to measure business performance.
3Oversee the maintenance, development and interface with internal and external organizations in their development and refinement of work procedures. The extent of external interface is to understand best practices in the work procedures arena. This includes the promotion of a work procedure governance structure.
4Partners very closely with internal safety leading organizations to ensure that work practices are appropriately coupled with key safety stakeholder processes to provide a comprehensive approach. Organizations include: Safety and Wellness, Performance Assessment, Electric Distribution and Utility Training. Implement best practices for tools, equipment, policies, programs, processes and procedures focus on enhanced safety, increased productivity, and reduced cost.
5Participation in special assignments including enterprise wide safety initiatives. May function as Utility Functional Area Manager (UFAM) for Quality Assurance (OPCO specific). If UFAM role applies, the manager will oversee the Quality Assurance Program, tools and equipment which verifies that controls are in place and are implemented across utility to drive compliance standards of policies, programs, processes and procedures.
6Provide and manage the allocation of 'Subject Matter Expertise' in ACE, RCI/RCA, and other related investigations to assist the business in safety, legal issues, and opportunities for continuous learning.
7May be required to respond to emergency events.
'BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical degree
'At least 8-10 years' experience, including at least 5 years utility related experience (gas, electric, distribution, transmission, reliability, maintenance, design, standards, etc) and must have completed supervisory assessment.
'Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including new technologies and work practice enhancements.
'Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
'Business acumen, customer awareness and ability to create value / eliminate non-value activity
'Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local regulatory issues as they relate to Methods and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other internal groups and outside agencies.
'Ability to work extended hours, including 24x7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
'3-5 years supervisory experience and completed supervisory assessment.
The Methods Manager utilizes communications, project management, and performance management and development skills on a daily basis as he/she interfaces with their staff as well as various levels of the organization, from field employee to uppermost senior management to meet customer response for work practices, tools, and equipment clarifications. The individual in this job must also interface collaboratively with all areas within the Exelon Corporation including, but not limited to: Operations, Engineering, Support Services, and Legal. The Methods Manager is looked upon as the 'Subject Matter Expert' and is linked into RCI, ACE, Safety Council Meetings, Business Plans, Conferences, other investigations to assist the business with their needs and concerns. In addition, the Methods Manager is key in the Training & Methods Department as the lead in initiating and managing the successful introduction of new tools, equipment, and work practices that will generate ROI for the company
